今回はアメリカ出身の国際交流員、直美さんからの紹介です。

★Portland Rose Festival★
Similar to Akita's Kanto Festival, the city of Portland, Oregon also has an iconic summer festival that is greatly anticipated each year. The Portland Rose Festival is an annual civic festival held during June over the span of 2 - 3 weeks. It includes three separate parades, along with many other events and attractions. New for 2026, the festival’s grandest parades were combined into a single parade experience called the Grand Floral Starlight Parade; it started with floats and marching bands, while later when darkness fall it's followed by illuminated floats, lighting effects and exciting nighttime spectacles. Another big draw is the City Fair, which offers carnival rides, food and beer, as well as live music. As the festival takes place around the waterfront, there are also boat races along the river. It's also the one time-a-year opportunity to see gigantic naval ships line the shore, giving visitors an up-close view of seafaring military vessels. Although the 2026 festival is over, I hope those interested take a trip next year to enjoy Portland and all the festivities the city has to offer!
★ポートランド・ローズ・フェスティバル★
秋田の「竿燈まつり」と同様に、オレゴン州ポートランド市にも、毎年多くの人々が心待ちにしている象徴的な夏の祭りがあります。「ポートランド・ローズ・フェスティバル」は、毎年6月に2ー3週間にわたって開催される市民参加型の祭りです。期間中は3つのパレードをはじめ、数多くのイベントやアトラクションが催されます。2026年には新たな試みとして、祭りのメインとなるパレードが統合され、「グランド・フローラル・スターライト・パレード」として開催されました。このパレードは、山車やマーチングバンドによる行進で始まり、日が暮れると、ライトアップされた山車や光の演出、そして心躍る夜の壮観な光景へと展開していきます。もう一つの大きな魅力は「シティ・フェア」で、カーニバル・アトラクションや食事、お酒、そしてライブ音楽などを楽しむことができます。祭りの会場は川沿い周辺であるため、川ではボートレースも行われます。また、巨大な海軍の艦船が岸辺に停泊する様子を間近で見学できる、年に一度の貴重な機会でもあります。2026年の祭りはすでに終了しましたが、興味を持たれた方はぜひ来年ポートランドを訪れ、街全体が盛り上がるこの祭りを満喫してみてください！
