The Good Bread Company is an artisanal bakery in Vittoria, Ontario, specializing in gourmet breads, desserts, and more. The bakery is housed in the historically designated, secularized Vittoria Baptist Church. The site includes the bakery, art gallery cafe, and Richard’s Hall - a performance and event space located in the church’s former sanctuary.
The bakery is the heart of the Good Bread Company. New fresh and tasty breads and treats are being added to the menu all the time, and products from local farms are now available in the bakery’s marketplace. Sign up for our newsletter to receive weekly updates on daily breads, special bakes, and new specialty products arriving daily.
Norfolk County is home to a vibrant and exciting fine art and fine craft community. Area 15 is proud to host monthly exhibitions by emerging local artists. The schedule is already booked into 2020, so if you are interested in exhibiting with us, get in touch soon. Wall space and shelf space is available.
The gallery café adjacent to the bakery showroom is a 25-seat café that functions also as a showcase for a variety of artists, both established and emerging.
The café menu features in-house baking in various guises – traditional items, as well as innovative recipes developed in our own kitchens.
In the retail shop, as well as the café we use only the best ingredients handled with old-world care, always conscious of food allergies and sensitivities, eliminating all frying of any kind.
RICHARD’S HALL
Norfolk County’s newest meeting place, performance, and event space is also one of its most historic. Richard’s Hall is the former Vittoria Baptist Church sanctuary, repurposed to host concerts, meetings, exhibitions, film, weddings, and more. If you have your own ideas of how to use this beautiful space, we’d love to hear them.
The church was built in 1852 to house a congregation established in 1799. Before its cessation, it was the oldest Baptist church in Ontario or Quebec, and the oldest church of any denomination in Norfolk County.
Many of the church’s historical features have been preserved, including its original stained glass windows, beautiful staircase, pulpit, and many significant architectural features.
Prior to the church, the site was home to Vittoria’s courthouse, which was constructed while Vittoria was the judicial capital of the London District of Upper Canada (1815-1825).
