Culinary skills are marvellous.
And food per se teaches me a lot.
Among other things, food teaches democracy, emancipation, individualism and fulfilment.

The greatest chefs in the world who, on the one hand, wield only a particular knife for a specific type of fish so that it's nearly invisible veins remain intact, also on the other hand, maintain joyously that certain ingredients like garlic for instance, ought to be administered with instinct, and salt to taste.

Butter could be bountiful but its presence must be immensely private in the final analysis.

And saffron?
Ahh. Even numbered orange hairs of this sacrosanct ingredient mark their presence profoundly in a recipe, ousting the bullies ---
garlic,
pepper
fennel
asafoetida.

Loving you was never easy

stretch

a raw, brittle love
it only turned more brutal
with
the hardened shell.

Today
but
those pores of risen bread
look inward.

I impregnate my Word
to you
like a busy beehive.

I lampoon
and
trapeze
those proofed doughs
and once proofed
I fist out the air from them
only
to see them rise again.

Today
I dream of terracotta cupcakes.

Today
my love
I am free.

I was always irreverent towards anything that demanded measures.
Why do we need to quantify? I asked myself.
Life is spontaneous.
Life is bountiful.
And my boundaries are fluid.

And then one day I began to cook.

I was initiated into a universe full of cups and cup measures,
Grams.
Litres.
Ounces.
Fistfuls.
Spoonfuls.
Pinches.
Drops.
Even a few drops of vanilla extract could influence a recipe.

Hah! What did a drop or two mean, anyway? That too, in such a vast belly of the cake?
And, like tear drops, these too were invisible!

I laughed and laughed at the ephemeral facet of life.
And then I cooked up a Story.
Mine to relate.
Yours to devour.
