"I am Shaheema Robbani Saikia. I recently moved from Delhi to Shillong, Meghalaya looking for a quality lifestyle for my 2yrs daughter. I’m married to a sailor which means we do a lot of globe-trotting. No matter where I go my heart flutters when I see a beautifully crafted piece of art. My passion lies in arts and aesthetics. Baking & cake decorating are my favorite things. Although I bake well my first love is for cake decorating.
I started baking at 8. My first order was at 12. However, I never thought of pursuing this passion. I am a graduate in Mass Comm and Video Production. Things changed when in 2013 my husband coaxed me to undertake a professional baking and patisserie course. I enrolled myself in IICA, New Delhi. And that reopened doors to my almost lost horizon."
India was the most important British colony during the Victorian Era. This cake speaks what the British left us with respect to art and aesthetics. Although Christianity was present, after the British rule its roots grew deeper.
The British built several forts, cathedrals and architectural marvels. Fort William in Kolkata, Fort St. George in Chennai, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai, Victoria Memorial in Kolkata are few examples of European architectural marvels. This cake speaks of how beautiful cultures merged and brought in something absolutely incredible.
This 3 tier cake is adorned with sugar flowers, pearls, and isomalt jewels. The top tier has a cave which houses a golden sugary Cross. Decorated with plaques and vintage frames the second tier enhances the theme. Bottom tier is inspired by bas-reliefs and swags. A royal icing piping border with hand piped roses completes the look. The cake board is covered with a piece of tartan to symbolize the Scottish influences on the people of the state of Meghalaya.
