In Chef Daniel Humm and actor Annabelle Dexter-Jones‘s NYC apartment, the answer unfolds through dark walnut, tactile woods, antique ceramics, vivid artworks and a Bordeaux-hued family room inspired by Humm’s wine collection. Designed by Tommy Zung of Studio Zung, Maison Madison is a home where the kitchen disappears into the architecture, art finds its place in every corner and each room reveals a different mood. A study in collecting, craftsmanship and quiet discovery, the apartment invites you to look a little closer.

An art fair, a citywide programme and a very good reason to be in Seoul this September. From September 2–5, Frieze Seoul takes over COEX with 125+ galleries from 30 countries for its fifth edition. The Convention and Exhibition Centre is where it may begin but the fair spills into the city making Seoul a part of the exhibition itself. From coins with messages hidden across the city to late-night gallery openings, performances and special projects, Frieze Seoul is set to infuse the city with an arty spirit. What gives couture its soul? Sometimes, it’s the story you don’t see at first glance. JADE by Monica and Karishma The Hands That Remember looks beyond the finished garment to the artisans, regional traditions and generations of knowledge that shape it. A demolished apartment. A stubborn grid of exposed beams. Most architects would panic. Principal architects Ahaladini Sridharan and Trisha Patel of studio 80 built a spine instead.
In this 1,000-sq-ft Chennai home, one long piece of timber does the job of six rooms — desk, wardrobe, storage, all in one. The real twist is at the entrance with two front doors. Step through one, and you’re out in the city on your own. Step through the other, and you’re back with your parents next door. A son’s first apartment, built to hold both. A little bit of Wonderland, a whole lot of wanderlust. At The Azulian House in Bengaluru, botanical gardens, Latin American flavours and a botanist’s imagined travels come together in a dining experience designed to be explored. “The idea was to create a design-led experience that had story and soul,” says principal designer Shruti Jaipuria of Maia Design Studio Shruti Jaipuria. Think herb-filled cocktails, tequila and mezcal, hand-painted ceilings, jungle-inspired details and plates that let Peru wander through the Garden City.
