Fama De Colva - Monday 13th October 2025
"It was Fr Dionisio de Passos, then Vicar of Colva Church, who allowed the parishioners to kiss the statue of Menino Jesus on Thursdays. This ritual may have started around 1653. As the devotion grew and the number of devotees increased, he convinced the parishioners to organize a feast in honor of child Jesus. Perhaps it was on this occasion that the kissing of the sacred image was shifted to the day of Fama, once a year." - The Fama of Menino Jesus of Colva, Goa, a book written by Jose Venancio Machado.
He dedicates the book to 10 ganvkar of , , , and who were jailed in the Fortess of Rachol for one month and 14 days in 1722 for their efforts in recovering the statuette of Menino Jesus; & to the devotees of Menino Jesus of Colva.

Our Lady of Mercy Church, Colva, Goa, is called βNossa Senhora das Merces Igreja em Colva, Goaβ in Portuguese. The Church is popular as βThe Colva Churchβ locally in Goa. Originally the Colva Church was a chapel built in 1630 and affiliated to the parish of Benaulim. In 1635, Our Lady of Mercy Church became a full- fledged parish. Infant Jesus (Menino Jesus de Colva) is venerated in this church with special devotion. It is one of the foremost testimonies of the hamlet of Colva erected in the Colonial era. This whitewashed church is a little gem of a masterpiece and is steeped in centuries of history.
