Founder Diaries | Chapter 6

Sometimes, the things that become a part of our lives don't arrive with a grand announcement.

They simply grow with us.

For me, baking started that way.

I had grown up watching my mother bake, and somewhere along the way, that curiosity became my own.

I began trying things.

Some worked. Some definitely didn't..

There were recipes to understand, techniques to learn, mistakes to make and plenty of moments when I wondered, “Am I really going to get this right?”

But with every bake, I learnt something new.

And slowly, I realised that what I loved wasn't just the finished cake or loaf.

It was the process. The anticipation. The creativity.

The little surprise when something turned out even better than I had imagined.

And most importantly, the feeling of making something with my own hands and sharing it with someone else.

Looking back now, I think that's how the journey really began.

Not with a business plan. Not with a big dream.

Just a love for baking that had quietly followed me from my childhood and eventually asked me to give it a chance.

And I'm so glad I did.

Because sometimes, a passion doesn't shout.

It whispers.

We just have to listen.

Until our stories meet again...

Shakespeare in Everyday Life | Chapter 5

The more I bake sourdough, the more I find myself thinking about Shakespeare.

His poetry often returned to the passage of time, change, patience and the fleeting nature of life.

Perhaps he understood something that a loaf of sourdough teaches me every time I bake one:

Time isn't something we simply wait through.
Time is part of the making.

Some of the best things need us to slow down, trust the process and let time do what only time can.

A poem unfolds. Dough develops. Life happens.

And sometimes, the waiting is where the magic really is.

That's my little bit of Shakespeare in Everyday Life this Wednesday.

What has life taught you to be patient with?

The Tale Behind the Bake | Chapter 5 🤍

Behind many dreams is a person who quietly says:
“Why don't you try?”
And sometimes, that little nudge is all we need.

For me, there was someone who started as a colleague and became a friend, a cheerleader, and eventually one of the biggest reasons I took the leap towards becoming a professional baker.
She saw something in me that I hadn't quite seen in myself yet.
She encouraged me.
She pushed me.
She questioned my doubts.
And when I took that first step, she didn't stop there.
She stayed.

Through the experiments, the learning, the uncertainty and all the little victories, she has continued to be a pillar of support.
Looking back, I often wonder...
Would I have taken that first step without her?
Maybe.
Maybe not.

But I'm incredibly grateful that she was there to give me that nudge.
Because sometimes we don't need someone to show us the whole path.
We just need someone who believes in us enough to say, “Go on. Try.”

Today is her birthday, and this one's for her. ❤️
Thank you for believing in the baker before she fully believed in herself.
Some people become part of our lives.
Some people become part of our stories.
And a very special few help us write the next chapter.

Happy Birthday, my friend. May you always know how much your nudge meant to me. 🤍

Until our stories meet again...

Founder Diaries | Chapter 5

Looking back, I don't think I chose baking.

I think baking quietly chose me.

Growing up, I watched my mother - who came from a small town - pour so much love into everything she baked. She wasn't trying to build a business or create a brand. She simply loved bringing people together with something made by hand.

At the time, I never imagined those moments were shaping me.

I was simply watching.

Learning without realising it.

Years later, when I found myself covered in flour, waiting patiently for dough to rise, or smiling as a cake came together, I understood something beautiful.

I hadn't just inherited recipes.

I had inherited her joy.

Her patience.

Her generosity.

And her belief that something made with love always finds its way into someone's heart.

Bakespeare Tales may carry my name today, but its first chapter was written long before I baked my first cake.

It began in my mother's kitchen.

And for that, I'll always be grateful.

To every parent who unknowingly plants a dream...
Thank you.

Until our stories meet again...

Shakespeare was talking about life. I’m talking about sourdough. 🍞

And honestly, sourdough has taught me that you cannot rush readiness.

You feed your starter.
You give it time.
You wait.
You watch.

And sometimes… you wait a little longer.

Until one day, it tells you: I’m ready.

This overflowing jar was definitely ready. 😅

Maybe that’s true of more things in life than we realise. We can prepare, we can put in the work, we can do everything right—but sometimes, we still have to allow things to reach their own time.

Good bread begins long before the oven.
And perhaps, so do many good things in life.

So tell me—what's something in your life you're learning to be patient with?

The Tale Behind the Bake | Chapter 4

There are two kinds of cake orders.

The ones where every detail is decided.

And the ones where a client smiles and says...

"I'll leave it to your imagination."

If I'm honest, those words make me a little nervous every single time.

Because with complete creative freedom comes complete responsibility.

Will they love it?
Will it reflect what they imagined?
Will I do justice to the trust they've placed in me?

But I've learnt something over the years.

Some of my most meaningful creations have come from saying yes before I knew exactly how I would get there.

Every challenge begins with uncertainty.

Every idea begins with a blank canvas.

And every beautiful surprise begins with the courage to try.

That's the tale behind this bake.

A reminder that we'll never truly know what we're capable of... until we're willing to begin.

Has there ever been something you were nervous to try, but so grateful that you did?

Until our stories meet again...

Founder Diaries | Chapter 4

Today, I found myself flipping through an old scrapbook.

Its pages are filled with photographs, little notes, recipes, clippings, ideas that never quite worked, and memories I had almost forgotten.

As I turned each page, I realised something.

None of them captured perfection.

They captured progress.

The countless hours spent learning.
The mistakes that became lessons.
The experiments that became favourites.
The moments that quietly shaped the baker...and the person I am today.

Looking back, I don't just see where I've been.

I see everyone who has been part of the journey.

The people who encouraged me.
The ones who believed in me before I believed in myself.
And every customer who trusted me with their celebrations.

Sometimes we're so busy chasing what's next that we forget how far we've already come.

Today, this scrapbook reminded me to pause, smile, and be grateful for every chapter.

Because every memory has led me here.

And every page has become a part of Bakespeare Tales.

Thank you for being part of this story.

Shakespeare in Everyday Life | Chapter 3

A sourdough loaf has taught me something Shakespeare understood centuries ago.

The finest things in life refuse to be hurried.

You can't rush a sourdough starter and expect depth of flavour.

You can't skim through a Shakespeare play and expect to discover all its beauty.

Both ask something of us.

Time.

Patience.

Presence.

Every stage of sourdough has a purpose. The waiting isn't wasted - it's where the transformation happens.

Perhaps life is much the same.

We often want the result before we're ready for it.

But sometimes, the waiting is quietly preparing us for something far better than we imagined.

That's why baking sourdough feels so much like reading Shakespeare to me.

Both remind us that the most meaningful things don't arrive instantly.

They unfold... one patient moment at a time.

Until our stories meet again...

The Tale Behind The Bake | Chapter 4

Sometimes, the sweetest cakes aren't made for birthdays.

They're made to say, "Thank you."

Many year ago, someone inspired me to attempt something I never thought I could - a marathon.
(I am still gathering the courage to go beyond 10kms!)

Their belief, encouragement and passion stayed with me long after the finish line.

And I kept wondering...

How do you thank someone who unknowingly changes the way you see yourself?

For me, words didn't feel like enough.

So I did what I know best.

I baked.

A cake inspired by runners, finish lines and every courageous step that brought me to mine.

Because sometimes, gratitude isn't spoken.

Sometimes, it's mixed into batter, patiently baked, carefully decorated, and shared with someone who made a difference.

That's the tale behind this bake.

A reminder that the most meaningful creations aren't always commissioned.

Sometimes, they're simply gifts from one grateful heart to another.

Founder Diaries | Chapter 3

People often ask me what I consider my biggest achievement.

Is it creating a beautiful cake?

Learning a new technique?

Growing a business?

Honestly...

None of those come close.

For me, the greatest achievement is something far more meaningful.

It's when someone trusts me with a moment they can never recreate.

A child's first birthday.

A couple's wedding.

An anniversary, years in the making.

A surprise that has been planned for weeks.

Those moments only happen once.

And when someone chooses Bakespeare Tales to be a part of them, they're not just placing an order.

They're placing their trust in me.

That trust humbles me every single time.

It reminds me that behind every cake is a family waiting to celebrate, a table waiting to gather, and a memory waiting to be made.

If there's one thing this journey has taught me, it's this:

Success isn't measured by the number of cakes you bake.

It's measured by the number of hearts that trust you to be part of their story.

Thank you for trusting me with yours.

Until our stories meet again...
