What happens when a modak meets a cinnamon roll? 🥥✨
On Ganesh Chathurthi, modaks traditionally make an appearance as an offering to Lord Ganesha — with that wonderful combination of coconut and jaggery at the heart of many versions.

I decided to take those familiar flavours and give them a little pastry twist: an enriched dough, coconut-jaggery pooranam, rolled up like a cinnamon roll and baked.

Not quite a modak. Not quite a cinnamon roll.

Just a little Bakespeare experiment celebrating a familiar flavour in a different form.

The Tale Behind The Bake | Chapter 9

Chocolate + Rose. Her favourite combination. And one of my favourite customer stories. ❤️

Over the years, I've had the privilege of making many cakes for her sons, most often in their much-loved chocolate sponge with rose buttercream.

And somewhere along the way, her orders became more than just orders. They became a reminder of the trust that customers place in a small business.

Including one slightly stressful episode when a cake got smudged during delivery! 😅 Thankfully, she was kind enough to understand, let me repair it at the venue, and most importantly, not lose faith in me.

For a one-person business, that kind of understanding and continued support means more than I can put into words.

Some customers order a cake.
Some become part of your story.

Shakespeare In Everyday Life | Chapter 8

"Friends, Romans, countrymen… lend me your feed!" 🍞

Today’s Shakespearean character is my sourdough starter — needy, unpredictable and absolutely unwilling to survive without regular attention.

A little flour.
A little water.
A little patience.

And then we wait to see whether it decides to cooperate.

To rise, or not to rise…

That is always the question. 😄

Some of my favourite parts of cake-making happen in the little details. 🤩🤩🤩

I love creating tiny fondant elements because they give me a chance to step away from the usual baking and let my creative side take over.

For this cake, every little detail represented something the birthday girl loved doing. 💛

Sometimes, the smallest details tell the biggest stories and that's the thing that continues to amaze me every single time!!

Founder Diaries | Chapter 8

Today, I want to celebrate someone who has been quietly present through so many chapters of my life.

My sister has always been one of the first people I turn to when there's something on my mind. Personal things, random thoughts, big decisions—and, increasingly, things related to Bakespeare Tales!

She's my sounding board, my reality check, my cheerleader… and occasionally the person who tells me, “Aarthi, you're overthinking this.” 😂

Running a small business can sometimes feel like a very solo journey. Having someone you can call, talk things through with, and simply know is in your corner, is a gift I don't take for granted.

So today, on Rakshabandhan, this Founder Diary is for you, sis ❤️

The Tale Behind The Bake | Chapter 7

I finally stopped saying, “I’ll learn it some day.” 😄

Palette knife buttercream art is one of those techniques I’ve admired for a long time, but somehow kept putting off learning.

Until I decided… enough! Let me just try it!
So this cake became my little experiment — palette knife, buttercream, lots of patience and a fair amount of figuring things out along the way.

And honestly? I’m quite happy with how it turned out. ❤️ and my client adored it.

Are the strokes confident yet? Not quite.
Do I have a long way to go? Absolutely.

But I've learnt that sometimes, the only way to get better at something is to stop waiting until you're “ready” and simply begin.

This is my first real step into palette knife art. There will be more practice, more experimenting and hopefully, much more confident strokes in the cakes to come.

One new skill. One cake. One step forward.

That's the tale behind this bake. 🌸

Founder Diaries | Chapter 7

Some stories begin long before we know they will become stories.

Decades ago, it was just the two of us.
Brother. Sister.
Partners in crime.
Best friends.
Two people who somehow always seemed to understand what the other was thinking.
We grew up, found our own ways, chased our own dreams and became our own people.
And somewhere along the way, life changed.
But some things didn't.
That effortless understanding.
The ability to laugh at the same things.
The comfort of knowing that someone gets you - even when you don't say very much.
Today, we tell stories in very different ways.
I find mine in flour, dough, butter and the warmth of an oven.
He finds his in words, characters and stories.
I'm the baker.
He's the storyteller.
Different journeys. Different ways of creating.
But perhaps the same instinct underneath it all - to take something ordinary and turn it into a story worth remembering.
Looking at this photograph today, I don't just see two younger versions of ourselves.
I see the beginning of two storytellers.

We just didn't know it yet.
Some stories change. Some stories grow. And some stories simply continue.

Until our stories meet again…
