I started panicking when my last bottle of pure vanilla extract was almost over. After a few minutes of googling, realised that one can make excellent vanilla extract right at home.
So got myself around 5-6 vanilla pods, an "addha" of an inexpensive brand of vodka (because the alcohol anyways evaporates during baking/cooking) and my almost empty bottle of vanilla extract.
Scraped the seeds out of the vanilla pods and added the seeds and the pods to the vanilla bottle, poured the vodka over this and gave it a good shake. This would be ready to use in about 6-8 weeks and keeps indefinitely!
