Taking a break from big bakes to welcome Ya’ara Levana to this world

I thought I destroyed my starter the night before she was born

Woke up to a wife in labor, two older sisters in awe of their momma, and a robust starter in the kitchen 😆

Another week of “relaxation” before returning to the bakery

Hand mixing loaves, baking in a Dutch oven, and making lots of slow cooked and nourishing foods for the mom of 3 girls

Go hug a tree / happy tubishvat 🌱

If you’re new around here, here’s a little bit about us

- we made aliya in 2023, just before the world went crazy

- we spent 2 years living in baka / Arnona before moving up north

- we have two beautiful girls, and another soul arriving any day now

- our passion revolves around homesteading, easy living, spending time in nature, and nourishing our souls and bodies with real food and real connection

I’m often asked how I got into sourdough baking, and I’ve never shared on the instas…. so here goes. Back in 2021, after our first daughter (Mazal) was born, a friend from our bet kinneset in prospect heights, bk, gave us a sourdough bread. The cov1d trend was well along, and it seemed like everybody was baking bread except for me. I was, and still am, just a home cook. Gimme a chefs knife and a sauté pan and I’ll go to work with any ingredients in the pantry. But this bread was different. Something made me wanna make it. And so I did. I got a starter after pesah, and boom…. We’ve been eating fresh bread basically ever since. Enjoy the pics :)

Heading into Pesah with a lot of gratitude for my customers and supporters. It’s been an incredible ride the past year and half. Excited to start fresh again with a brand new sourdough starter after the holiday. Wishing everyone an awesome pesah. Moadim lesimha! חג שמח!
