The County Sligo Agricultural Show was established in Riverstown in 1994, taking over from the County Show when it closed in Sligo town - the Showgrounds got its name from the County Show. The main organiser to get it up and running in Riverstown was the late Paddy Kenny who was supported by the local Creamery Committee. The community of Riverstown is delighted to organise and hold the Sligo Count

y Agricultural Show in our picturesque village each year. Come join us on the third Saturday in July, for a fun day out for all the family - young and old. It is a wonderful opportunity for Farmers to showcase their cattle, sheep, horses, ponies, poultry, vegetables, baking, arts & crafts and family pets.

📢 Poultry Competition Update for Agricultural Shows 🐔

The Housing Order (Avian Influenza – Precautionary Confinement of Birds and Restriction on Assembly of Live Birds) Regulations 2025 will be lifted from 5th May 2026.

This means agricultural shows will once again be permitted to host poultry competitions and exhibitions from this date.

While the avian influenza risk has reduced, it has not gone away. The Avian Influenza Biosecurity Measures Regulations 2025 remain in place, and all bird keepers and show organisers are encouraged to continue maintaining the highest standards of biosecurity.

✅ No outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) have been detected in Ireland in 2026 to date
✅ No further cases have been reported in wild birds since the previous update

Riverstown Annual Tractor & Vehicle Run

When: Easter Monday April 6th
Where: Riverstown Community Park
What: All types of Vehicles Welcome.
Entry fee: €20 per vehicle.

Children’s Toy Vehicle Run around the Park commences at 1pm.

Registration from 12.30. Drive Starts at 1.30

Refreshments and raffle afterwards in the Teach Ceoil followed by a Monster Auction in Tommy Macs at 9pm!!

This year, all proceeds are in aid of local initiatives - upkeep and upgrading the Riverstown playground, our lovely Christmas lights and the Wednesday Social Club.

📢 Bluetongue Update for Exhibitors

The Irish Shows Association has issued an update regarding the Bluetongue situation ahead of the 2026 show season.

At present, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has not issued specific advice or restrictions relating to agricultural shows. Exhibitors must continue to comply with all animal movement regulations.

The ISA will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates when required.
