The County Sligo Agricultural Show was established in Riverstown in 1994, taking over from the County Show when it closed in Sligo town - the Showgrounds got its name from the County Show. The main organiser to get it up and running in Riverstown was the late Paddy Kenny who was supported by the local Creamery Committee. The community of Riverstown is delighted to organise and hold the Sligo County Agricultural Show in our picturesque village each year. Come join us on the third Saturday in July, for a fun day out for all the family - young and old. It is a wonderful opportunity for Farmers to showcase their cattle, sheep, horses, ponies, poultry, vegetables, baking, arts & crafts and family pets.

It’s going to be a busy weekend for our beautiful village, we want to wish the Tidy Towns the best of luck in the Entente Forale Awards on Saturday night and to Shamrock Gaels on Sunday in the County Semi Final.

Cloonacool Sheep Festival is Back. This weekend sees the return of the Scoonacool Sheep Festival from 17 to 20 of September. The unique festival has been running, in one form or another, since 2019. Since that time, the South Sligo village has played hosts to some great events and spectacles and their 2026 festival will be no exception.

Our festival, running over four days and nights, has the aim of celebrating the sheep farming tradition of Cloonacool as well as providing top entertainment and novel events. Sligo’s own, Kieran Quinn, will mark opening night again this year and up-and-coming dance sensation, Gavin Gribben will play the Festival Dance on Saturday 19th September. Sunday 20th is Open Day and features the region’s top Sheep and Dog shows. Musical bingo on the Friday night is always a blast.

If you want to finish off your late summer experiences with a flourish, visit Cloonacool Sheep Festival at some stage on the weekend of September 17 to 20. You will become part of a community that has refused to die, making the most of its traditions and showcasing itself to the wider region. There is something for all ages to enjoy and the whole concept is an example of what is best about rural living and the farming way of live.
