*** Counterfeit €50 ***

A retail outlet in Galway city were recently scammed with a fake €50 note. The often relied upon security marker DID NOT work on this note. Compared to a genuine note you will see that the yellow star behind the word EURO is more prominent in the fake note.

Another security feature that stood out in this case was the holographic window (view note from the rear). The €50 note boasts a transparent window with a holographic portrait that changes colour from green to blue when viewed at different angles.

Businesses are also advised to use an Ultra Violent light (for embedded coloured fibres) when checking notes, as the traditional marker failed in this case.
