How Deluxe Bakery came to be.
Hello everyone, as we approach our first birthday, I wanted to take the time to tell you how the bakery all came about. For those who don’t know me, my name is Donna and I run and own Deluxe Bakery.
The love of baking began back in 2010, I decided to make and decorate some cupcakes for my friends birthday. However, the bake was a disaster and I had to run out and buy pre-made cupcakes and decorate them. In hindsight it would probably have been cheaper to buy a cake, then buy all the stuff to make them. But it was good fun and I couldn't have been prouder of them! Before this I regularly burnt cake/bun/scone I ever made in my home economics class. Sorry Ms. Barry!! But thanks to these cupcakes- I caught the baking bug and I've been hooked ever since.
From then on, I began baking at home for family and friends and I slowly improved. One year before Christmas I had gotten my ex-husband a cupcake class ( you know the presents i’m talking about, you say it’s for them when really its for you) and bless him, he did humor me and we went. And after that I braved the classes on my own. I have since gone on to attend over 21 baking and decorating courses.
2017 was a bit of a personal disaster of a year for me. I got divorced, living alone and I hated my job! Prior to opening Deluxe Bakery, I was a nurse and I used to adore it. But then there was constant staff shortages among a heap of other stuff culminated and the job just became very stressful. I woke up one night in a full blown panic attack because I forgot to handover to my colleague about some medications and that was it, I had had enough. I rang my mother and told her I wanted to move home. Within 6 weeks I was home and I had no clue what I wanted to do. As I had trained in the UK, I had to wait for my nursing pin to be converted to an Irish one.
