Today our brilliant Emma was talking in RTE1 radio about being a beekeeper at modern times. Very interesting - also we have to say, made us at the market proud.

In case you want to hear hers - and other great beekeepers - talk, check out the link in the comments!

PD Our Emma with Michael, her first customer at Raheny Country Market, our regular customer and big friend of the market -, and Tony, Irish Country Markets Chairman of the Board

The entrance area to our last market looked like a garden centre. Susan gives us a quick tour of the market - continued with some photos of the produce.

So you don't forget us till our next market on Thursday 18th June! 10.30am - 12.15pm , come early for the best choice

Yesterday John Maher, a herbalist working with St. Anne’s Physic Garden, gave a talk for market visitors on the power of local plants. We were making notes - your simple dandelions, hawthorns, elderflowers, cleavers, sage, red clover, nettles, catnip, valerian, rosemary - are full of wonders!

Follow the guys in St. Anne's Physic Garden for their other talks and events!

Market day is tomorrow Thursday 4th June! And we’re getting fresh photos from our members’ kitchens. Nice to see it all fresh (and still hot), and without the packaging - isn’t it?

So, some of tomorrow’s treats:

A traditional tea brack
Gingercake as requested by some regular customers
Mixed summer berries muffins
Energy oat bars with cranberries, raisins & almonds.
Savoury Cheddar Cheese Scones
Buttermilk Sultana scones
Gluten free almond biscuits
Gluten free apple sponge cakes

We also made some Exam cocoa bites especially for those sitting Leaving & Junior Cert exams

See you all tomorrow!

Our sign is up and our next market is this Thursday 4th June!

We will have a talk on the Power of Native Plants by John Maher, our usual produce and probably - again - some mad amount of plants.

Hope to see you all and have a chat!

There is no market tomorrow 28th May!

Next market is on Thursday 4th June - along with John Maher's talk on power of native plants.

Meanwhile - some video from our last market on 21st May, so you don't forget about us!

We have to share this poem by one of the visitors of one of our other markets (there are 25 Country Markets around the country!). We think it reflects our markets' spirit - and the course of the market day - so well!

NORTH WICKLOW COUNTRY MARKET
02 May 2026
by Mary Buchholz

Anticipation tenses the air.
Shoppers await
The removal of the velvet rope
As sprinters do the starter’s pistol.
A rush and roar as
The queue scatters
Attacking the market tables
Like a cloud of locusts.
More leisurely shoppers
Pause for a spot of tea,
Cup of coffee,
And a sweet.
Greeting the coffee ladies
And joining friends
At long tables in the back.
Business is brisk
For the pancake maker.
Her freshly flipped cakes
Bringing a crowd
Until her batter
Is gone,
Safely tucked away
Into welcoming bellies.
The checkout is crowded
As the series of shoppers
Wait
Again.
Produce is gathered
In hands and bags.
Flower bouquets disappear
From their table.
Over scones and tea.
The
Cakes and breads,
Biscuits and tarts
Pile into baskets.
Jam jars, juices, and honey
Bid farewell to their shelf.
The roar diminishes,
Shifting to softer conversations
community tables fill
With gossip and laughter
As cups and plates
Empty.

The checkout queue
Is shorter now.
Tea sipping gossip fades.
Tables are cleared.
Dishes clatter
As the coffee and sweets ladies
End service.

Oil cloth covers roll while
Registers ring through final sales.
Folded tables go dormant for a week.
Market members take their leave with
Over-the-shoulder good byes,

“Mind yourselves”
‘Until next week”

Elderflower season has started! And it's time for us to gather elderflowers for elderflower cordial.

Can someone recommend a good local spot, not too far from Raheny or Baldoyle? We'll be very thankful for new recommendations!
