Satu Ombak Lagi project

I have been pretty quiet on here in regards to the progress and movement of Satu Ombak Lagi Project. But heres a exciting update for those generous and kind friends who have been supporting or interested in the project.

A few alterations and progressions have been made in regards to the direction of the project. I hit challenges with the idea of setting up a community/learning centre, which ended out to be a slight detour in the right direction.

Together with the help of good friends. S.O.L project will be become a "precious plastic" centre -a place where the community can bring their plastic waste to recycle/create it into valuable items (i.e bowls, buckets, surf fins..the possibilities are endless)

The centre will be made from eco bricks (plastic bottles filled with plastic scraps)
And the land will be a shared garden for the community to grow fruit and veg.

By helping to reduce our negative impact on the earth we will be educating and assisting the local community.

Excited to make this dream reality. Thankyou for all your continuing support and enthusiasm. Together we will make it happen!

Little darling Azit's birthday today. To celebrate we shared fish on the fire, with the neighbours.
This sweet bundle of energy, lives with his lovely grandparents next door. he is always so excited to come and play.

Daily english lessons with the neighbouring grommets. They work on the land, growing and harvesting crops and farming animals. In their down time they are so keen and eager to learn.

I first met darling Brahim on the beach, I noticed this young boy collecting plastic bottles. When i approached him he was so timid and shy, i offered nasi goreng and began collecting bottles with him. As it began to rain, i insisted on taking him home. I later learnt that brahim, everyday after school goes to collect plastic bottles (10c every 2kg) which he puts towards being able to attend the local school. Brahim comes from such a beautiful family, his dad crafts and sells knifes and his mum gets work where she can- selling fish, making rope etc. I have since become very close with this dear family, their appreciation and gratitude is incredible. They dont have much but what they do have they always insist on sharing with me. Today i visited them after being in australia for a couple of months, the excitment, joy and love that they showed when i walked through the gate was like no other. My heart is smiling.

Im excited to be embracing a oppurtunity to go look after children in a island of Australia for the next couple of months.
Unfortuently this means that there wont be a lot of movement here with the community centre.

But in saying this, the land will be used during my absence to assist the local community.
Near by residence will be using the land to grown a corn crop- providing income and work for many of the neighbouring members.
The familys near by will use and sell the fruit from the trees.
Learning materials and surf boards have been left with the younger community to used while im away.
A well and small shack will be made while also.
Like all good things... it requires time... especially in beautiful indonesia

A perfect slice of west sumbawa has been settled to be the home of satu ombak lagi project -community centre in maluk... And our shared garden already has some goodies... kacang panjang party!

Local farmers planted a crop of to***co on the block of satu omblak lagi project, when settlement was going through (love indo style, its great!). It means that we are waiting out the harvest to be able to start projects on the land, but happy that its bringing income and work to the warm friendly community we are a part of

"Kita mau belajar bahasa english".... these timid young boys wondered over to my tent and said "we want to learn english" -and thats exactly what we did....how perfect!
