SOME WEDDINGS JUST STAY WITH YOU
I worked closely with this fantastic couple in the lead up to their wedding, with lots of conversations, meetings, ideas and inspiration shared. Getting to know my couples and really understanding the feel of their day is always a hugely important part of my design process, but with this wedding, I became particularly involved in how the overall aesthetic began to take shape.
Their original Pinterest board was wonderfully eclectic and artistic. From there, I created a mood board exploring colours, textures, florals and details, and as our ideas developed together, some of those conversations began to influence the elements and details of the wider wedding too.
I was actually the first supplier they booked, and they later described the cake as becoming a “lynchpin” for organising other details around, which was incredibly special to hear.
The final design evolved from one of my previous cake designs that they had fallen in love with, reworked for them with an earthy, rustic, time-worn finish, ornate detailing, touches of 24k edible gold leaf and some incredible florals weaving through the silhouette. The florals were fresh and the gorgeous trailing foliage handcrafted in sugar.
This really is why I love the design process so much.
It isn’t just about what a wedding cake looks like. It is about really getting to know the people I’m creating it for, understanding their ideas and creating something that feels completely at home within their day.
