I often mention this in class, but what exactly is "The Pause?" Why do I talk about it so much?
Disclaimer: I don't know the science behind this, I just know it works! From my own experience as a mum and teacher.
Here's a video explaining how to incorporate The Pause into your interactions with your baby. Often when you pause mid sentence, they will look at you - they are more tuned into your speech than you think! Also, did you know, it can take up to 10 seconds for a baby to respond to a sign or word! It feels like a long time, doesn't it?
We often have a laugh in class at the end when I wave goodbye and mum might say, "they'll do it in the car as we're driving off". I hear this so much, and it's because babies need more processing time than we might think! And the response can be very subtle. A little twitch of the fingers? They might be responding to your wave!
