This part of B3026 Keate’s Lane, Eton for its entire length.


🧭 Alternative Route
Via B3026 Eton Wick Road, the B3026 Common Road, the B3026 Village Road, the B3026 Lake End Road, the A4 Bath Road, the A4 Wellington Street, the A332 Windsor Road and the B3022 Slough Road.

For generations, Eton College Chapel has been part of the Christmas landscape of Eton.

The Chapel has stood at the heart of Eton College since the 15th century, and music and worship have long been an important part of its life. The College's archives record Christmas carols dating back many decades, while the annual carol services remain an important part of the College's Christmas tradition today.

But the Chapel has also become part of Christmas in the wider community of Eton.

For many years, the Eton Christmas Lights celebrations - organised and hosted by Eton Community Association - have begun with a community carol service in the Chapel, before Father Christmas and the procession make their way along Eton High Street towards Jubilee Square and the Christmas lights.

It creates a wonderful transition:

From the beautiful surroundings of the Chapel…
To the sound of music and carols…
Then out onto the High Street, where the community gathers together…
And finally, the moment when Eton's Christmas lights illuminate the town.

It is a tradition that brings together two important parts of Eton's identity - the historic College and the wider town community - for one very special evening.

Eton Town Council is fundraising for a new Christmas lights display through the Windsor & Maidenhead Community Lottery.
Every contribution helps towards creating the next generation of Eton Christmas lights and ensuring that future families can make their own memories.

⚠️ NOTICE ⚠️

HAYWARDS MEAD PLAYGROUND

Due to some exposed wire on the rope steps, the large play frame at the end of the playground has been temporarily cordoned off while we arrange repairs.

Remedial work has been actioned this morning to ensure the exposed wire has been covered.

To keep children safe, please ensure that no one crosses the safety fencing.

One very memorable Christmas in Eton…

Back in 2010, the Christmas Lights celebrations had a rather special guest lined up to switch on the lights: Katie Melua.

The event was well publicised and the response was bigger than anyone expected. The crowds arriving for the Chapel service and gathering along the High Street were so large that it has become a memorable year.

Christmas in Eton has always created memories - sometimes planned, sometimes completely unexpected.
Now Eton Town Council is working to make sure there are many more to come, with fundraising underway for a brand-new Christmas lights display.

"Snow in Eton… in November?...Well, almost!

One of the memorable additions to Eton's Christmas Lights celebrations (organised and hosted by the Eton Communicy Association) was artificial snow, blown from the Henry VI pub during the switch-on.

For children standing in the High Street watching Father Christmas arrive, with the Christmas lights glowing overhead and snow falling around them, it must have felt like the real thing.
And there were plenty of other memorable moments too - including the Irish Guards band and their Irish wolfhound leading the procession from the Chapel to the lights switch-on in 2011.

These are the stories that make Eton's Christmas traditions special.
Now it's time to make sure the story continues.

"Before today's Christmas lights, Eton's High Street was decorated with much simpler displays.

Back in the days of the Eton traders, artificial greenery swags stretched across the High Street, complete with snowmen, penguins and Christmas trees. The displays were powered from local residents' and shopkeepers' electricity supplies, and the traders themselves would lay out the strings of lights, replace broken bulbs and put everything up.

Today, Eton Town Council is fundraising for a brand-new Christmas lights display, helping to ensure this much-loved tradition continues for future generations.
