Heres why im doing the amazing dragon boat festival in aid of ACT (Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust)on the 5th September!
Day 3 of being in the hospital with my handsome sunshine due to his mental health and unsupported ADHD.
I cannot stress how amazing addenbrokes staff are and what fantastic things Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust - help make your hospitals even better does for the children all over the hospital.
💜Why Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust means so much to children and families 💜
When a child spends days, weeks or even months in hospital, they don't stop being a child. They still need to play, learn, laugh, socialise and feel normal — and this is where the extra support provided and funded through Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) can make such a difference. 💙
🎨 Play Specialists & activities
Expertly trained Play Specialists create activities around the children on the wards. If a child is too poorly or doesn't want to go to the playroom, activities can be brought to their bedside so they don't miss out. 🧸
⚽🧚♀️ Bringing fun into hospital
From special visitors and entertainers to activities, music and play, these moments give children something to look forward to and, for a little while, allow hospital to feel less like hospital. 🌈
📚 Education continues too
During school term, children can access hospital education and a school room, helping them continue learning and giving some much-needed routine and normality while they're away from their own school.
🎮 A space for teenagers
Older children aren't forgotten either. A dedicated teen room, supported through charitable funding, gives teenagers an age-appropriate space to relax, socialise and have time away from the clinical environment. 💙
👨👩👧👦 Supporting the whole family
Serious illness affects everyone. Support can extend to parents and siblings too, particularly for families going through ongoing or long-term treatment.
🏥 And behind all of this are incredible doctors, nurses, Play Specialists, teachers, therapists, catering teams, support staff and volunteers working to make some of the hardest days of a child's life that little bit easier.
ACT also supports projects including specialist equipment, children's facilities, play and sensory resources, family support and research into better treatments. 🔬💜
These things may sound small compared with lifesaving medical treatment — but when your child is the one in that hospital bed, they aren't small at all.
A game. A lesson. A visitor. A favourite meal. Somewhere for a teenager to escape for an hour. Someone making your child smile.
They help a poorly child feel less like a patient and more like themselves. ❤️
That's why supporting Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust matters.
Because every child in hospital still deserves the chance to simply be a child. 💜🌈
So come by the dragon boat festival and buy a scone or 4, or even a filled scone, help support an amazing charity!
