Walling in the Orkney Islands
I have just returned from the Orkney Islands where I had the privilege of spending two full weeks walling there. I was working on the island of Eday which is one of the smaller northern islands. The scenery was stunning with the cliffs of the waters edge only 100m from where I was working. The stone was sandstone and lovely to use and thus I had no excuses on this job.... and I loved every second of it. I was effectively gapping field walls although one section was 20m in length after I chose to combine several gaps to rebuild the whole section.
Having travelled all over the world I can honestly say the Orkneys are right up there for beauty, wildlife and tranquility. Can't wait to go back next year for a couple more weeks 😃.
