A lovely day face painting at a school event today! 🎨✨

Unfortunately, I couldn’t take many photos (and definitely couldn’t photograph the children), so these few behind-the-scenes clips are all I’ve got.

What you can’t see is the queue of excited little faces waiting to be transformed, lots of smiles, and plenty of glitter! 💖

And make sure you watch until the end... 👀 One of the teachers was running a second-hand stall to raise money for the school, and I managed to find an absolute bargain. A light-up mirror that is going straight into my face painting kit! I was far more excited about it than any grown adult should be 😂

I can’t wait to see the children’s reactions when they get to admire their face paint creations in it! ✨

Am I the only face painter who doesn’t enjoy practising on plastic practice boards? 😅

I find them too slippery, the paint seems to take forever to dry, and they just don’t feel natural to paint on. So today I went on a little hunt for a better alternative.

I picked up two different paper pads:

🎨 300gsm watercolor paper: £3.99 for 15 sheets (TkMaxx)

🎨 200gsm craft paper: £1.99 for 40 sheets (Home Bargains)

After testing both, I was genuinely impressed.

The craft paper is a fantastic budget-friendly option. It gives you loads of sheets for the price and works really well for practising line work, teardrops, flowers, butterflies and new designs. The only downside is that it absorbs more paint into the paper fibres, so I found myself using a little more paint and the colours looked slightly less vibrant.

The watercolor paper, on the other hand, felt incredibly smooth to paint on. The paint stays on the surface instead of soaking into the paper, which means brighter colours, cleaner blends, and less paint needed overall. It gave me the closest experience I’ve found so far to actual face painting practice without painting on a person.

My final scores:

⭐ Watercolor paper: 10/10

⭐ Craft paper: 9/10

Honestly, both are great alternatives to plastic practice boards, and I’ll definitely keep using both. If you’re looking for an affordable way to practise your face painting skills, these might be worth trying.

I’d love to know what everyone else uses for practice. Do you use practice boards, paper, arm painting, or something completely different?

POV: You just gave a child their very first face paint... and a little sticker to remember it by. ✨

Face paint washes off, but the memory doesn’t have to.

To my fellow face painters: consider this your sign to make „First Face Paint” stickers. The kids absolutely LOVE them, and parents do too. 💕

Ever since I shared my face painting kit tour, I’ve had so many messages asking where my case is from. The funny thing is... I actually „borrowed” it from my parents’ house!

It’s a toolbox (although my parents always used it for picnics rather than tools), I noticed it had so much potential and with a few simple modifications, it turned into the perfect face painting case. I removed the internal panel, added baking trays, glued magnets to the bottom of my paint pots, and made the adjustable dividers work for my setup.
I love finding affordable alternatives because face painting cases can be so expensive, and sometimes the best solutions are the ones you already have at home.
I did a bit of research and found a very similar (if not the exact same) toolbox online, so I’ve added the link below for everyone who’s been asking! 👇

One of my favourite face painting money-saving hacks! 🎨✨

These baby bath sponges cost just 49p for a pack of two, and with a few cuts, they become 16 face painting sponges.

I simply cut each round sponge into 8 wedges, which are perfect for applying base colours, rainbows, butterflies, superheroes, and all those designs that need smooth coverage.

The best part? They’re reusable. After an event, I place them in a mesh laundry bag and wash them on a gentle cycle using sensitive laundry detergent. Once dry, they’re ready to be used again.

Professional face painting sponges definitely have their place, but if you’re just starting out, painting at busy events, or looking to reduce your supply costs, this is a simple and affordable alternative that works really well.

Sometimes the best business tips are the simplest ones!

We absolutely appreciate every tag, share, and recommendation, they help small businesses grow and reach new customers.

However, exposure isn’t a payment method.

Behind every balloon display is time, planning, design work, materials, equipment, travel, experience, and years spent building a business. Just like any other professional service, those costs are very real and can’t be covered with social media mentions alone.

We’re always grateful for the exposure that comes naturally from creating great work, but exposure is a bonus not a substitute for paying a small business for its time, skills, and services.

Supporting small businesses means valuing their work, and that starts with fair payment. 🎈

Did I spend less than you expected... or way more? 😅
