Men across the UK report that services available before and after the birth of their babies do not always regularly or meaningfully involve fathers, leaving many feeling overlooked.

Somerset ICB want to help change this by making sure all new dads feel informed, supported and included so families can enjoy parenthood together.

Please follow the link below for more information on the support and resources available for dads.

In Somerset, we believe that all men should be able to access the support and advice they need to be great dads. ‼️PATIENT NOTICE ‼️

Due to unexpected staff shortages within our nursing team, we may need to contact some patients to rearrange or cancel appointments over the next few weeks.

This will also impact overall nursing capacity, meaning there may be longer waits for routine blood tests, annual reviews and vaccinations.

We are doing our best to accommodate more urgent appointments where possible, but this will only be done where it is operationally safe to do so.

We do not cancel appointments lightly, so if our team does need to contact you, we kindly ask that they are treated with patience and respect.

As always, thank you for your understanding and continued support during this time.

📢 CHANGES TO OUR PRESCRIPTIONS PHONE LINE 📢

From Tuesday 26th of May, the prescriptions phone line and voicemail service (option 2 from the main practice number) will only be available between the hours of 10am and 2pm.

Outside of these hours, patients can still:
• Submit a request via Rapid Health
• Order through their usual online methods
• Speak to reception who can advise on the most appropriate route for your query

Please remember that routine medication requests should be ordered in good time wherever possible.

These changes are being made due to increasing demand and to help our prescriptions team manage medication queries more safely and effectively.

We will continue to support urgent medication issues where appropriate.

☀️ Stay safe in the bank holiday sunshine ☀️

It looks like we’re in for some lovely weather over the weekend. Great for getting outside but a quick reminder to stay safe in the sun:

🧴 Pop on SPF 30 or higher and reapply regularly
🕶️ Sunglasses, hat, light clothing if you’ve got it
🌳 Try to take breaks in the shade, especially around midday
💧 Keep water with you and sip regularly
👶 Please take extra care with little ones, older relatives, and anyone less able to manage the heat

Enjoy the long weekend!☀️

Today is International Nurses Day and we would like to take a moment to recognise and thank our incredible nursing team.

Our nurses are at the heart of the practice every single day. They bring compassion, skill, patience and reassurance to so many patients, often during some of their most difficult or worrying times.

From long-term condition management and wound care to immunisations, health advice and everything in between, the work they do is invaluable and never goes unnoticed.

Thank you Karen, Sam, Ceri, Sally, Fi and Ellie for the care, professionalism and kindness you show day in, day out. We are very lucky to have such a dedicated team.

Happy International Nurses Day 💙

Mental Health Awareness Week: 11th – 17th May 💜

Led by the UK charity Mental Health Foundation, the theme for 2026 is ‘action’ - looking after our mental health often starts with small, practical steps.

That could be noticing when things don’t feel quite right, finding out what support is available, or exploring local activities that support your overall health and wellbeing.

Our team regularly attends local coffee mornings, giving people the chance to have an informal chat and get help finding local services, groups and resources that may be useful.

👋 Come along this week to say hello:

📅 Wednesday 13th May, 11am-12pm
📍 Crispin Community Centre’s Coffee Morning, Street

📅 Friday 15th May, 10am-12pm
📍 The Portway Annexe’s Coffee Morning, Wells

If you’re unable to attend in person, you can also contact our Health and Wellbeing Hub for guidance. Contact details for our hub can be found here 👉 westmendippcn.co.uk/health-and-wellbeing-hub
