Mr and Mrs Kitchen have an important delivery today. We are heading to London to deliver a cake to a very special person.
This week Harry Wentworth-Stanley has completed a 400 mile cross-country, ultra endurance
triathlon to mark twenty years since he lost his brother James to su***de.
Following James’ death, his parents set up the charity James’ Place, which now has
four centres, in Liverpool, Birmingham, London & Newcastle. Each of them offer free, life-saving therapy to suicidal men.
These men are in crisis
largely driven by life events, such as a relationship breakdown, financial problems, or
bereavement.
The charity offers a “warm, welcoming and non-clinical space, where professional
therapists get quickly to the heart of a man’s suicidal crisis and help him to solve it.”
Harry started his challenge at the Newcastle centre, the city where James was studying
when he died. He cycled 174 miles to James’ Place Liverpool. Then he paddle boarded 107 miles to Birmingham, before running 135 miles to James’ Place London, where he finishes today.
James’ Place has now helped over 5,100 men. The aim is to open another centre and this challenge has raised over £140,000 so far!
You may have seen Harry on TV this week. You may have read about him in the news. (And If you’d like to see him in person he will be starting the final leg of his journey in Cassiobury Park this morning!)
We know money is tight and hesitate to ask. But wouldn’t it be wonderful to give James and his team a boost this morning with a flurry of donations from people he doesn’t even know but who have read about his story here?
So I’m asking if instead of buying coffee or a slice of cake today you might consider donating £4.00 to James’ fundraising appeal? I’ll post the link in the first comment.
We have almost 6,000 followers on our page. If just ten per cent of you felt able to donate that could raise over £2000 this morning!
Thank you for reading this, and thank you in advance for your support. I’ll keep you updated and as ever we’re so grateful to you for your constant kindness and generosity.
