Bonjour tout le monde,
Vous allez bien ? 😀
You're good?😀
We are back for a new week, still with our new opening hours due to works starting in Sankey Street for 4 months from 20th April (we've been told it's been delayed and they will be in front of our shop in July and August) forcing us to change our way of working. Indeed the Bakery side of our business is stopped between 15th April and end of August for now which means no pastries and no breakfast options between Wednesday and Friday included.
Our new opening hours are as follows:
> Wednesday to Friday: 12pm to 4pm for lunch, cakes and drinks then 6pm to 8pm for Evening Bistro Menu.
> Saturday: 10am to 4pm (pastries and breads should be pre-ordered to avoid disappointment).
> Sunday (from 10/05) 10.30am to 11.30am for collection of breads and pastries then Brunch options from 11.30am to 4pm (last food order 3pm). Bookings are highly recommended by Thursdays 4pm.
For today we have made a lot of homemade sweet and savoury food, treats, bakes and desserts for you all to suit the weather and to please your tastebuds 😃
Always made from scratch in our Café by the 2 of us. Don't ask us if we've made all this, we're both French and it's the name of the business, we love food and respect it 🙂
Just a note if you didn't know but the word "gourmand" has nothing to do with the first literal translation "greedy", au contraire !! 😃 A "Gourmand" enjoys simple well cooked and made food, it's a "bon vivant", a hearty eater or an Epicurean, enjoying good drinks and food. Or the other meaning of "Gourmand" for our Café is mouthwatering, appetising, delightful. Everything we do here for you 😃
🎾 We're right in the final week of Roland Garros, the French Open, as per every year Olivia, who's a complete tennis fan, has made her special bakes to celebrate the annual tournament. Quantities will be limited so don't miss out 😉🎾
Drinkwise, we have a large choice of delightful loose leaf teas, hot chocolates and coffees made with locally roasted coffee beans.
We also have classic soft drinks in stock and we brought back from France more Teisseire syrups (Grenadine, passion fruit and peach) to mix with water, perfect for spring and summer.
We also brought back straight from a Cider maker in Brittany some organic fizzy apple juices. To enjoy real fresh 😀
And the new drink of the week is Cherry juice 🍒
If you call in this week, as usual, you'll find in our little piece of France, homemade and handmade cakes and classic treats all made by us on site that you'll find nowhere else except in France 😉
We're definitely cheaper than a flight to France and even if you go to France you're not even sure to get this level of quality and freshness if you don't know where to go 😄
If you don't mind processed food and cakes charged at crazy prices when not handmade and/or homemade, we are probably not for you 🤷♀️🤷♂️
As in our Café, everything is made by us on site and fairly priced. We like good food and we like to share it by baking and cooking everything from scratch. "Épicuriens" (Epicurean) we said in French 😊
For breakfast (on weekends here) French people have sweet food so you can enjoy Croissants, Pains au chocolat, Pain perdu (traditional French toasts), Tartines (1/2 Baguette tradition with jam and butter), Chouquettes (except on Fridays) and many other homemade treats from 10am on Saturdays as stock lasts.
Don't hesitate to spread the word as this fact doesn't seem well known 🙂
We are an unique place, when we say you're in France with us, you ARE in France 🙂
Also new breakfast offers starting this Saturday so you can feel even more in France 🇫🇷 🥐🥖☕️🧃
Regarding the menu, we will be serving a French Onion soup, Sandwiches with our Baguettes Campaillette, Quiches (Lorraine or Vegetables), Croque Monsieur OR Steak Haché Frites (homemade beef burger served with Northern France fries cooked in beef fat).
We are here until 4pm so come in and say "Bonjour" as we welcome you in our home in a way and it's the best and a really simple way to start a conversation 😀
And same when you leave, no matter how busy we are, you can still thank us and say goodbye. You would never leave your hosts' house without thanking and greeting them, right ? 😁
Everything is prepared on order for freshness and deliciousness. We are not a fast food. We love and respect food.
Lunch is available from 12pm between Wednesday and Saturday in our Café and is sacred. In France, we take our time to enjoy our meal 🙂
🍽 Or visit us between 6pm and 8pm for our Evening Bistro Menu for a tasty meal. This is our new offer for 4 months while the works will be in place in the street and neighbourhood.
If you're after scrumptious and homemade goodies, we have Fruits tarts with many with berries as it's finally their season 🙌, Crème caramel, Coulants au chocolat (melt in the middle chocolate cake), Café Liégeois (coffee cream dessert topped with our homemade vanilla chantilly), Crème brûlée, Cheesecake à la vanille et caramel au beurre salé (vanilla and salted butter caramel cheesecake), Tarte Tatin (caramelised apple tart baked upside down), "Tartes framboises citron vert mascarpone" (lime, mascarpone and raspberries tarts), "La Suzanne" (lemony sponge filled with lemon cream and fresh raspberries) and the Cake on the stand is a "Biscuit de Savoie à la vanille" (vanilla sponge cake with a caramelised crunchy shell).
Tartes au citron meringuées and La Suzanne, our Special creation to celebrate the French Open will be availablefromFriday. We'll have Mousse au chocolat and a Fraisier will be available for the weekend.
🥐 Please note that our traditional French pastries (Croissants pur beurre (full butter) and Pains au chocolat) are only available on Saturdays and Sundays for now. They are homemade on site by us from scratch using specific French flours and butters as you would find in any bakeries in France and they are always really popular so to guarantee availability and avoid any disappointment please pre-order them with at least 48h notice or by Thursdays 4pm.
The pre-order rules have been in place for 3 years now to guarantee the happiness of as many people as possible and make it fair for all our customers so don't hesitate to contact us to pre-order. Merci 🙂
(We know you'd like to keep this super secret to yourself but come on let's share those delicious pastries with others 😁)
Reminder: It takes approximately 30 hours for us to process a batch from scratch hence the pre-ordering rules in place. We are French artisan bakers not retailers opening a cardboard of frozen croissants or ready to sell croissants who won't be able to tell you how it's made and give you jam and butter with it when the French just enjoy their croissants as they are. Thank you.
You can buy our Baguettes Campaillette enjoy at home and you can buy French cheeses and/or charcuteries to go with them. All our goodies are imported from France and some are quality labelled, certified and protected products. We're happy to talk you through any of them.
We also have French artisans jams from Brittany made with quality and seasonal ingredients that will be perfect for your tartines (slice of half a baguette).
You can also pre-order Baguettes tradition if you need many for a party. 24h notice is required. Merci 🙂
For traditional French pastries, breads and food, come see us, the only piece of France in the North West 😎
You can treat yourself with some Financiers (almond cakes), Chocolate chips and pecan Cookies, Chouquettes, Noisettins (hazelnut biscuits), Roland Balls (Sablé biscuits shaped as tennis balls filled with our homemade salted butter caramel) and Chocolate and poached pears Muffins.
Madeleines will be available from Friday as usual. It's the only day where you won't be able to get Chouquettes from us.
We keep repeating that everything we do is homemade onsite just by the 2 of us from scratch but it's just because people seem so unaware of that and surprised when they visit us. After more than 4 years you should know now what to expect when you come in our little piece of France 😁
We don't sell an identity, we are French so everything is like what you would find in France in a classic and traditional Bakery in "Province" (provinces) (we're not Paris and we don't do trendy Instagrammable pastries and cakes).
For an authentic French food experience come see the French 😃 At Gourmand ! we mean what we say we don't play with our communication to sell something 🙂
🗣 Little tip: To check if the business you're in which has a French name or seems to offer French food are really French or do sell real French food, ask the staff how it's been done or check if the boss is French and ask them how they produce those French dishes or cakes and their stories. It's how you differentiate those which sell an identity because it's "sexy" and the authentic French businesses with passionate owners and workers 🙂
For the coming Sundays, we will be mainly serving our new Brunch offers. Please see posts about our new Menus for up to end of August.
However we still keep the 1st of each Summer month to cook and serve some
classics of French cuisine. The next Special Sunday Lunches will be as follows:
