I personally don’t get these emails from my boys school but I do feel ur pain it really is not easy some days xx
Every Friday, we receive an email from school.
The email contains a list of the ‘superstars of the week’.
The superstars are children who have worked really hard and have been doing a great job with homeschool.
And whilst I love reading about what others are doing (HONESTLY), every time I read the email, I get a knot in my stomach.
Because it’s basically my weekly reminder that what I’m doing isn’t quite enough.
It’s telling me how great everyone else is doing, and how terribly I’m doing.
It tells me that all these other families are ROCKING homeschool, so therefore, why am I not???
Why does my son throw a fit when I ask him to pick up a pencil?
Why doesn’t he engage in the activities willingly?
Why does he not remember how to write the ‘ow’ sound when we’ve literally covered it every sodding day for the past week and a half?!
How are all these other parents doing it????
Truth is, I’m not sure anyone is actually rocking it.
We get to cherry pick what people see and what people don’t see in our lives.
Same goes for social media, by the way.
I’ve spoken to several parents recently.
They’re all on edge and worried.
They’re dealing with upset, bored, fatigued, anxious children.
They’re juggling homeschool, work, and anxiety issues of their own.
They’re not sleeping, overeating, and missing family and friends....
We are not qualified ‘teachers’, in terms of following the school’s curriculum.
We are being forced to stay at home because of a state of national emergency.
If you made it through today and the children were fed and safe then my goodness YOU ROCKED IT.
Now stop being so bloody hard on yourself.
