I LOVE seeing my cakes once they leave the kitchen. There’s something about seeing them surrounded by the decorations, candles and all the birthday/celebration magic that makes all those hours of baking, filling, icing and decorating completely worth it.

One is giving sweet, playful and dreamy with the cutest little teddy, baby blue, latte, pearls and gold ✨🧸

The other is giving romantic, elegant and timeless with delicate piping, satin bows and the prettiest glittery “engaged” detail 🤍🎀

BLACK FONDANT: 1. MELLIE: 0. 🖤😂

I have officially been humbled.

I can make buttercream behave. I can pipe. I can scrape. I can decorate. I can turn a pile of cake ingredients into something vaguely resembling a professional cake.

But black fondant?

Black fondant looked me directly in the eyes and said, “Not today, babe.” 😭

Every crease became a feature.
Every fingerprint became a permanent historical record.
Every slightly wonky bit suddenly had its own postcode. 😂

I have the utmost respect for anyone who can get fondant smooth, sharp and flawless because I genuinely don't know how you lot do it.

Tonight, I have accepted defeat.

Finley's cake is DONE. 🎂💚🎮

I'll see every single tiny imperfection because I'm a baker and apparently we're cursed with that particular superpower. 😂

🎂⚽ The ultimate football prank... ⚽🎂
The birthday boy is a lifelong Celtic fan... so naturally his friends decided to have a little fun. 🤣🍀
From the outside, everything looked perfectly Celtic... 💚🤍
Then the cake was cut... 💙❤️🤍😂
I don't think anyone expected that surprise hiding inside!
Thankfully, it was all taken in good spirits, there were plenty of laughs, and most importantly... the cake still disappeared! 🍰
I absolutely love creating cakes that become part of the celebration and the memories. Safe to say this one won't be forgotten anytime soon! 😂

🥹 I don't even know where to begin...

Today was my very first market as Mellie Makes & Bakes, and I have been completely overwhelmed by the support. 💕

I was so nervous setting up this morning, but thanks to every single person who stopped by, bought a treat, shared a kind word, or followed my page, it turned into such an amazing day.

I sold almost 80% of my stock, had so many lovely comments about my giant cookies and brownies, met some fantastic local businesses, and even came home with some goodies after swapping treats with other vendors! 🧁🍪🍫

To everyone who took the time to follow my page today, welcome! 👋 I'm so excited to have you here. I create custom cakes, cupcakes, brownies, cookies and more for birthdays, weddings, baby showers, gender reveals and all of life's special moments.

This market has given me such a confidence boost, and I'm already looking forward to being back for the Christmas Market in November! 🎄✨

This Saturday, Black Mountain Shared Space will be filled with local makers, small businesses, community groups, live entertainment, great food, and plenty of friendly faces.

We've worked hard to create an event that genuinely has something for everyone. Whether you're looking for a few unique gifts, a bargain from our pre-loved stalls, handmade crafts, jewellery, home fragrances, sweet treats, fresh bakes, or simply a good cup of coffee and a chat, we'd love to see you there.

We'll also have live performances from the talented local dance company MoCo Collective, who have qualified to represent Belfast at the World Championships this August, along with music throughout the day from our DJ.

For families, there's a dedicated kids' zone, giving parents the chance to have a browse and enjoy the event while the little ones have fun. Shopping in peace? Who wouldn’t love this opportunity.

More than anything, this is about bringing people together. It's about supporting local businesses, meeting neighbours, catching up with friends, making new connections, and enjoying a positive day in the heart of our community.
