A cinnamon and cardamon spiced vermicelli with a pistachio creme patissiere danish, and a feta, zaatar, and pomegranate swirl can be found on the counter. Sales from both products will be donated to charities providing the most crucial aid in Gaza.
As a business centred around food, especially a bakery, the cruelty of reality doesn't evade me. I think of a time when the bakery became something of a playground with some of the guys hiding brooms from Mario. They were annoyed with the endless cycle of Mario sweeping flour off the floor and then complaining five minutes later when the floor was covered again. It's a bakery mate, the floor is always floury. I see endless photos and videos of people scooping flour off the floor for an ounce of food, people being killed while they collect aid, the endless hunger and suffering. Everything feels hopeless, but if we *can* do something, we sure as hell will.
There is nothing controversial in believing everyone has a right to food, to the basic necessities of life, and to life itself. And if that's a controversial thing to say, then I really and truly despair for the state of this world.
We have been truly blessed with the support we've received over the years and I again, shamelessly, ask for your support once more. If you're able, do show; if for no other reason, then simply because we like to see your pretty faces. I thank you in advance, from the deepest corners of my often-aching heart.
