Just a little PSA and a big thank you.

For those that don’t know at the start of February we are leaving Sevenoaks and moving to a farmhouse in Horsemonden.

It’s going to be such a change for us. Nat and I have both lived in Sevenoaks since we were teenagers and we’ve been in this house for 23 years but, the time has come to make some new memories, have adventures and pour our love into making another beautiful house our home. (I will still be baking and making pretty wedding cakes and sugar flowers!)

It’s all very emotional; exciting and overwhelming in equal measure but once we’re there I have no doubt we’ll wonder why we didn’t do it years ago and the only time we will look back will be to reflect and reminisce with very fond memories of the happy times and special friends we’ve made here.

I just wanted to take this moment and space to thank each and every one of you for the love and support you’ve shown me and my Little Cake Company over the years. Whether you ordered a bag of fudge or a towering showstopper I am truly humbled and grateful for your custom and friendship over the years.

I have learnt so much in the 7 years that I’ve been baking, honed skills I never knew were in me, had far too many late nights (more than I ever had in my teens and 20’s) and build so many relationships with customers and fellow cake artists all of whom have become unexpected treasured friends.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so supportive and loyal through my good and not so happy times. To this day I am still blown away by the kindness you all showed my through both my parents last few years, from thoughtful cards, Prosecco and even the most incredible bouquet of flowers from the kindest group of mums at Russel House School. Genuinely you will never know how grateful I have been to all of you. Thank you one and all.

I’m excited to share the next part of our journey with you, the unboxing may take a while, there’s building work to be done and a new kitchen to get registered and don’t forget if you know anyone getting married in deepest darkest Kent you know where to send them for cake!!

Xx

Cake International - Birmingham 2022

This cake caused quite a stir over the weekend with lots of enquiries as to what the medium on the bottom tier is…

This sparkling beauty came to life as a result of remaniscing about a trip to The Royal Opera House some years back where we indulged in everyones favourite Swan Lake. I’ve long been fascinated with the tutus prima ballerinas get to wear but sadly never had enough grace to get past second position!

Inspired by and an incredible workshop that I was fortunate enough to attend at The in Bermondsey a couple of months ago I was very eager to have a glittery play (much to the horrid or my husband who is still not enjoying the sparkling kitchen).

Maggie is my absolute all time cake idol, her stunning designs, calm gentle way and passion for teaching cannot help but inspire.

She taught me so many techniques, unlocked mysteries, shared methods and divulged process but most of all she generously shared her wealth of knowledge in the most inspiring way.

Before long I don’t doubt that the market will be flooded with this mystery edible technique but for now it is between those that were lucky enough to secure a date with Maggie; I count myself extremely fortunate and still pinch myself daily.

Cake International - Birmingham 2022

Here’s one of my babies from Cake International at the weekend.

It was my first time entering and I felt so out of my depth as the standard from all the cake designers is so high; there are a mind boggling number of rules and the schedule is extremely specific plus, I tend to wing life and don’t process instructions or rules very well! 🤣

The judges feedback was fair and will be really helpful should I ever muster the courage to enter again but for now I shall just sit back and enjoy my Bronze award whilst taking stock of how far I’ve come with regards to my techniques, self belief and courage.

I have come a long way with regards to valuing myself and my skill set but there’s still a lot of room for improvement! In the words of my wise old Dad “never ever give up”

It’s been a while since I posted on here and despite not taking on any new celebration orders I’ve still been very busy behind the scenes creating so many different cakes.

WOW… Darcee turned 21 in sensational fashion!

Viva Las Vegas baby!!

Thank you Alison for trusting me with making Darcee the most incredible cake; I hope her party was everything she wanted it to be and that you all had an amazing night:

It’s been an absolute pleasure to make so many beautiful cakes for your lovely family over the years and I look forward to many more when the girls decide that flowers are the way to go!

Thank you to for the fabulous bespoke topper.

Pretty little 30th birthday cake from this last weekend, I hope you had a wonderful time celebrating.

Good morning, it’s with mixed feelings that I am this morning announcing that I am no longer going to be making celebration cakes.

If truth be told I have been mulling the decision over for more than a year now as my heart really does lie with pretty cakes and the wedding side of the cake business. I’ve been reluctantly brooding over whether to give up the ‘bread and butter’ side of my business for a long time, mostly out of gratitude to my loyal customer base, those who have been with me from the very beginning, but have to say the cost of living crisis has helped make my decision easier.

The cake industry has been hit so hard by rocketing prices, be those ingredients, staples or energy costs and whilst I’m charging more than ever before for my cakes the reality is I am working harder and harder and earning less and less each month. The time has come for me to concentrate on achieving a better work life balance and perhaps try to turn a negative into a positive.

Most of you will know that almost every one of my emails starts with ‘I apologise for the delay in getting back to you’ and I’ve decided that this has to end. I constantly feel on the back foot and am tired of struggling to keep up with the admin side of my cake life. I feel so blessed to have so much interest in my wedding cakes and know I need to find more time and energy to develop and nurture that side of my business.

Over the years I have been making cakes my personal style has developed and evolved and now definitely feels like the right time for me to fly the celebration cake nest and spread my wings. Closing this door is a big scary decision but it really is time to focus on designing and making cakes that truly make my heart sing.

I will be forever grateful to everyone of you for your loyalty and support over the years, I absolutely wouldn’t be where I am now without you all.

Moving forward, I may still make the odd celebration cake here and there, if time and designs allow, but they will now be subject to a minimum order charge of £150. I’ll continue to run both of my Instagram/pages for the time being but please do come join me on my wedding account, (link is in my bio)

All of my existing cake orders will be honoured. If I’ve confirmed you are in my diary then your space and quote is safe and sound and I am very much looking forward to making your cake for you.

With gratitude
Annemarie x

Pretty handmade sugar flowers in an array of pinks set against a backdrop of mint green white chocolate ganache for Irene’s 70th birthday last weekend.

Thank you Irene for asking me to make such a beautiful cake for your milestone birthday, it was a delight and I’m absolutely thrilled that you loved the cake; it’s definitely one of my new favourites.
