Being mainly self taught, and after having one or two friends ask me to design and supply cakes for them I decided that I would look to start to cate

With the support of my family (especially my kids who chose the name!), Susie's Bakehouse was born and my first Facebook advert created an order book of over 35 orders in 20 minutes! Demand was obviously there, and whilst I couldn't cater for quite that many in one go, I was really pleased with the response that I got.

I rarely congratulate myself on my work. Like many bakers, all I tend to pick out are flaws and the things I could have done better. The more bakers I meet and watch, the more I realise that's a common trait.
I also lack confidence in a lot of things I do, there is always someone better and I constantly compare myself.

A fellow baker and very dear friend recently challenged me to stop focusing on the imperfections and be proud of how far I've come.
So, for once, I'm doing just that.

I'm proud of the skills I've developed, the cakes I've created, and the fact that I can now teach, help, and support new bakers on their own journey.

There will always be things to improve, but it's important to recognise progress too.

So here's my latest creation — and today, I'm allowing myself to be proud of it. 😊

Well… they can’t all be showstoppers! 😅

Today’s bake didn’t quite go to plan. Somewhere between being a little underbaked and possibly me getting impatient and opening the oven door too early, this Pear and Ginger cake decided it had other ideas!

Luckily this was just one for us at home, I had pears that needed using so I messed around with an apple cake recipe and through my own error it didn’t quite work out - but tastes delicious (my son has nearly demolished the lot!)

As bakers, we share the beautifully decorated cakes, the perfect slices, and the proud finished results. But the truth is, baking is a skill in itself, and like any skill, it comes with plenty of learning curves.

Sometimes recipes don’t behave, timings go wrong, ovens have a mind of their own, and despite our best efforts, things just don’t turn out as expected.

But that’s a bit like life, isn’t it? We don’t always get everything right first time. We learn, we adapt, and we try again.

So here’s today’s reality post instead of the usual polished photo! 😂

Thank You Teacher cupcakes

I am going to be opening the order book for limited spaces for end of term teacher gifts.
This is due to an already busy time for me, but again it is always a popular time of year so I don’t want people to miss out.

I will be offering single, boxed cupcakes with a gift tag (for your own message) at £5 per box.
You can choose from a single rose cupcake or a mini flower garden cake.

Please let me know sooner rather than later if you would like to order!

Thank you to everyone who had a guess at what my latest news from the Bakehouse is!

Nobody got it correct, although I was liking some of the ideas mentioned and someone was very close…

I am actually soon going to be trialling…..Online Postal Orders!

I am in the middle of building a website myself (😬) with the plan being soon customers from anywhere in the UK can order and get delicious bakes sent to them through the post!

I am also going to be launching digital guides to being a home baker, as well as scope for recipe downloads and everything you need to know about running a cake business.

Here is a sneaky peek of what I have so far, it needs fine tuning and a lot of work still but it’s trying to cram it in while running two businesses!

The Cake Shed is back open this week!

On Friday and Saturday a host of delicious treats will be available to buy from 12 Overlands, Ruishton (near the park!)

The weather is meant to be warming up, which is great news - but not so much for cakes so I would say get there early to purchase as it may be that I have to close early!

Lots on offer and payment accepted via cash or card!
