💗 Geiriau o’r galon | Words from the heart 💗

Cafodd y gerdd deimladwy hon ei hysgrifennu gan un o’n mamau dewr yn Joio yn ystod ei thriniaeth am ganser y fron. Mae hi bellach wedi gorffen ei thriniaeth ac wedi cael y newyddion gwych ei bod hi’n glir o ganser. 🩷

Mae ei geiriau’n rhoi cipolwg personol ar yr hyn roedd hi’n mynd drwyddo. Diolch am adael i ni rannu rhywbeth mor bersonol ac am helpu i godi ymwybyddiaeth.

This moving poem was written by one of our brave Joio mums during her treatment for breast cancer. She has since finished her treatment and received the wonderful news that she has been given the all-clear. 🩷

Her words offer a personal glimpse into what she was going through at the time. Thank you for allowing us to share something so personal and for helping raise awareness.

Why Slow Pedagogy Matters More Than Ever

In a world that seems to be moving faster every day, it's easy for early childhood settings to become caught up in routines, schedules, transitions, documentation requirements and the pressure to always be doing more.

What if children need more time to wonder, to play, to connect, to revisit ideas and to simply be?

Slow pedagogy is not about doing less. It's about being more intentional with our time, relationships and decision-making. It's about creating space for deep learning, meaningful interactions and genuine wellbeing for both children and educators. Slowing down has a wonderful effect on educator wellbeing too!

It also has strong connections to trauma-informed practice. When we slow down, we create opportunities to build secure relationships, respond to children's individual needs, reduce unnecessary stress and provide the predictability and emotional safety that many children need to thrive. Rather than rushing children through the day, Slow Pedagogy encourages us to notice, listen and respond with greater sensitivity and care.

Now more than ever, we need to reflect on the pace of our days. As educators we can ask ourselves

- Are children being given enough time to become absorbed in their play? Like, deeply absorbed!

- Do our routines support or interrupt learning?

- Are we creating environments that foster calm and connection, especially during arrivals at the service?
Just think about if you have loud disco music playing on arrival. What message is that portraying to children in the early mornings.

What messages does the pace of our day send to children about what we value? What do our practices demonstrate to children? What about our environments?

Sometimes slowing down isn't about having more time, It's about using the time we have differently. In the end, we all have the same amount of time in the day, it's about what values the individual services and educators hold. And remember Slow Pedagogy will look different in different services, as our community context matter!

🤩Spotlight employee 🤩

Emily did a fantastic job throughout September, consistently showing initiative and going above and beyond to support both the children and the team. She has played a wonderful part in helping our new children settle into nursery, making sure they feel safe, secure and welcomed into the Joio family. 🥰

She has also been brilliant at supporting our returning children as they settled back into their routines after the six-week summer break. We know that coming back after a long holiday can take a little time, and Emily has shown so much patience, care and understanding, helping the children feel comfortable, confident and ready to enjoy their days with us again. 🌿✨

It’s lovely to see Emily taking the initiative, recognising where help is needed and stepping in with such a positive attitude. Her nurturing approach, dedication and willingness to support those around her really reflect the values we pride ourselves on here at Meithrinfa Joio.

Thank you, Emily, for all your hard work and for helping make Joio a happy, welcoming place for our children and families. You are so deserving of this recognition! 💛

Mae’n hyfryd gweld Emily’n cymryd y cam cyntaf, yn sylwi ble mae angen help ac yn camu i mewn gydag agwedd mor gadarnhaol. Mae ei ffordd ofalgar, ei hymroddiad a’i pharodrwydd i gefnogi’r bobl o’i chwmpas yn adlewyrchu’r gwerthoedd rydyn ni mor falch ohonyn nhw yma ym Meithrinfa Joio.

💗 WEAR IT PINK – HELP US RAISE MONEY FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS 💗

As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, both Joio sites will be taking part in Wear It Pink and fundraising activities throughout the week commencing Monday 19th October.

This cause is especially close to our hearts, as one of our Joio mums, Kellyanne, has been bravely sharing her breast cancer journey. After discovering a lump in August 2025, Kellyanne underwent surgery and 10 rounds of radiotherapy. Throughout everything, her biggest motivation has been her son, Jack, who attends Joio.

Kellyanne is now organising a raffle to help raise money for this important cause, and we would love our Joio families to get involved and show their support.

🎀 How you can help:

Wear pink: Join in with our Wear It Pink activities throughout the week.

Buy raffle tickets: The raffle book will be available in the foyer, organised by Kellyanne.

Make a donation: A donation box will be available in the foyer for anyone wishing to contribute.

Donate online: We will also be sharing a GoFundMe link for anyone who would prefer to donate online.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, will be greatly appreciated. Breast cancer affects so many families, and this is a lovely opportunity for our Joio community to come together and support a cause that means so much to one of our families.

Fel rhan o Fis Ymwybyddiaeth Canser y Fron, bydd dau safle Joio yn cymryd rhan yn Gwisgwch Binc a gweithgareddau codi a***n drwy gydol yr wythnos sy’n dechrau ddydd Llun, 19 Hydref.

Mae’r achos yma’n arbennig o agos at ein calonnau, gan fod un o famau Joio, Kellyanne, wedi bod yn rhannu ei phrofiad o ganser y fron yn ddewr. In the Radiotherapy Waiting Room

In the stillness of this crowded space,
Time stands still, a hushed embrace.
Faces lined with stories, brave and true,
Each one here, with battles to pursue.

The ticking clock, a constant reminder,
Of hope and fear, intertwining, kinder.
We share glances, both nervous and bold,
In our unspoken bond, more valuable than gold.

Magazines lie untouched, pages yellowed and worn,
As we find comfort in those who’ve fought, and those who’ve sworn.
The hum of machines whispers all around,
A symphony of healing, where strength is found.

Some sit with hands clasped, eyes cast down,
Others lift their heads and wear courage like a crown.
Together we wait, in this sacred place,
Finding solace in smiles and a warm, shared space.

Through the tension and silence, a quiet connection blooms,
In the face of uncertainty, we dispel the glooms.
For here we are warriors, each story profound,
In the radiotherapy waiting room, our spirits are bound.

It’s amazing what a few lovely comments can do 💛

After people said such lovely things about Joio on a post this morning, we’ve had four new families get in touch to enquire about our nursery!

We’ve put so much love and hard work into Joio, and hearing people recommend us means the world. It also shows just how much social media and word of mouth can help a small business.
