It’s getting harder and harder for local small businesses to survive. Please pop over to Fingers and Thumbs Crafts and have a browse!
This is absolutely not a pitty post. It's more about being transparent. I've ran my business for 10 years now 8 of those full time where this is my sole income. I've survived covid which is pretty good for a predominantly wedding based business. I've been dragged through the peaks and troughs of the economy being on it's knees. I'm hanging on by a thread....
In the last 3 years my business has been declining and I can't decide wether to be annoyed at myself for not accepting that it's time to move on or proud that I've pushed through and kept it going.
The last 12 months have seen so many changes/challenges which have made it even harder to be and run a small business. I lost being able to ship to Europe, then to Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland then US. So i'm left with UK. Etsy have and continue to make changes to their platform. Their fees are so high that I'm sometimes working for very little. I can't increase my prices as they tell me i'm overpriced. Royal Mail have increased their prices 6 times in the last year and half and their service is the worst its ever been. Items nit being delivered when they should, not scanning tracking, damaging orders. Not paying out compensation.
I'm being pushed to make videos share to tik tok, Instagram X, Facebook it's alot for 1 person. All while trying to work out what new trends there are what people are searching for .
I honestly don't know what the future holds for but I do know I've given it a bloody good go! I know like 5 of you will see this but at least it's out there. Too many people are so fake on social media and give the impression their business is doing amazingly when infact it's not. This helps no-one and makes others feel like a failure. So if I at least make one other small business feel better about themselves or know it's not just them then I'm ok with that.
If you see a small business post please share it, it costs you nothing. But for that small business it means the world. It helps a wider audience see their posts and brings new people to their pages. Im seeing so many business close daily it's devastating 💔
If you got to this point thank you!
