About Us
Bread in Common is B arts real bread bakery and programme of Bread Clubs.
Bread in Common is based at
72 Hartshill Road
Stoke-on-Trent ST4 7RB
B arts started Baking Bread, a project to discover, make and share bread recipes from the diverse communities in Stoke-on-Trent, back in 2011.
We also found there is a demand for “real” bread, that’s bread made using the best and simplest ingredients, made in stages and risen slowly.
So we ran a subscription bread service for a year to develop the audience for real bread.
What are Bread Clubs?
We know that although people want to learn new baking skills to help feed their families, and make the budget go further, sometimes the biggest barrier is turning on the oven. So Bread Clubs are about bringing people together in community centres and church halls to use a shared oven and bake together. We provide the starting help- some baking advice, help you to organise your bake and some practical stuff ( kit, how/ where to bulk buy ingredients, how to sort out the money etc) and then you get baking.
As part of this project we also have a mobile wood fired bread/pizza oven If you’d like to book the oven do contact us at [email protected]
What’s in the bread then?
We use organic flours, water and salt. If there is anything more in a loaf it is clearly stated in the description (it’s likely to be olive oil, seeds, fruit, malted grain flakes of wheat or rye)
Our bread is made using either a sourdough or a bakers’ yeast with a dose of sourdough, and is given a long proving process, often over night, giving time to develop the gluten and for a good taste.
If you need any information about the allergens contained in any of our products please contact us on [email protected]
There are no flour improvers, synthetic chemicals or any other hidden extras.
