Fostering is ordinary family life with extraordinary moments. ๐Ÿ’š

But what makes those moments even more special? Having people around you who understand the journey.

We asked our carers, families and team a simple question:

โ€œWhat does the Evergreen community mean to you?โ€

Their answers say it better than we ever could. ๐ŸŒฟ

Because fostering isnโ€™t about doing everything alone. Itโ€™s about connection, support, shared experiences, laughter, friendships and knowing there are people beside you through the highs and the harder days.

At Evergreen, we believe community mattersโ€ฆfor our carers, their families and, most importantly, the children they care for.

Could fostering fit into your family life?

Who is your hero today?

31/08/2026

๐ŸŒง๏ธโ˜” Ahhhโ€ฆ a British Bank Holiday! โ˜”๐ŸŒง๏ธ

Of course itโ€™s raining. ๐Ÿ˜‚

If your plans today have gone from โ€œLetโ€™s get out and make the most of the day!โ€ to โ€œRightโ€ฆ what on earth are we going to do with the kids ALL DAY?โ€ โ€ฆwe see you! ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ˜‚

But rainy days can make some of the best memories. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ  Dens in the living room
๐ŸŽฌ Films under blankets
๐Ÿฟ Far too many snacks
๐ŸŽจ Crafts and colouring
๐Ÿฅพ Wellies on and puddle jumping
โ˜• Hot chocolates afterwards
๐ŸŽฒ Board games (until somebody gets far too competitive ๐Ÿ˜†)
๐Ÿ’ƒ Kitchen discos
๐Ÿ˜ด And absolutely no pressure to make the day โ€œproductiveโ€

Sometimes children donโ€™t need a perfectly planned Bank Holiday.

They just need time, connection, silliness and you. ๐Ÿ’š

And if everyone is still in their pyjamas at lunchtime?

Weโ€™re calling that a successful Bank Holiday. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™Œ

Happy Bank Holiday from everyone at Evergreen Foster Care ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŽ’ Back to school isnโ€™t always as simple as putting on the uniform and walking through the gates.

For some children, particularly those who have experienced trauma, change or uncertainty, returning to school can bring some really big feelings.

And they might not tell us:

๐Ÿ’ญ โ€œIโ€™m worried.โ€
๐Ÿ’ญ โ€œWhat if things are different?โ€
๐Ÿ’ญ โ€œWhat if I canโ€™t manage?โ€
๐Ÿ’ญ โ€œWhat if you donโ€™t come back?โ€
๐Ÿ’ญ โ€œI donโ€™t feel safe yet.โ€

Instead, they might show us through their behaviour.

You might notice more arguments, tears, anger, withdrawal, clinginess, difficulty sleeping, refusing to get ready or behaviour that seems to come completely out of nowhere.

Sometimes we need to look beyond โ€œWhat is this behaviour?โ€ and wonder โ€œWhat might this behaviour be trying to tell me?โ€ ๐Ÿ’š

This is where PACE can be such a helpful approach:

๐Ÿ’š Playfulness โ€“ bringing warmth and lightness where appropriate
๐Ÿ’š Acceptance โ€“ accepting the feeling, even when we need to hold a boundary around the behaviour
๐Ÿ’š Curiosity โ€“ gently wondering what might be happening underneath
๐Ÿ’š Empathy โ€“ letting them know we understand that this feels hard

We donโ€™t always need to fix the feeling.

Sometimes our children simply need an adult who can stay alongside them while they experience it.

So as we head back to school, rememberโ€ฆ

Behaviour is communication.

Look underneath it. Stay curious. Keep connecting. ๐Ÿ’š
