🌟 WE’RE OFFICIALLY AN ALLERGY SCHOOL! 🌟
We’re incredibly proud to share that Happy Hours at Penkhull is now officially recognised as an ‘Allergy School’ by Natasha’s Allergy Research Foundation! 💙
Our team has completed the required allergy awareness training and accreditation, strengthening our knowledge, confidence and procedures around supporting children living with allergies.
As part of becoming an Allergy School, we have worked through key areas including:
🔹 Allergy and anaphylaxis awareness – understanding allergies, symptoms and the risks of severe allergic reactions
🔹 Recognising the signs of anaphylaxis and knowing how to respond quickly and appropriately
🔹 Emergency response and adrenaline auto-injector awareness
🔹 Allergy-safe policies and procedures
🔹 Food allergy management, including reducing the risk of allergen exposure and cross-contact
🔹 Individual allergy care and risk management
🔹 Staff awareness and training, ensuring our whole team understands their responsibility in keeping children safe
🔹 Creating an inclusive environment where children with allergies can participate, learn, eat and play safely
🔹 Incident and near-miss awareness, helping us continually review and improve our practice.
💙 Why is this particularly important now?
From September 2026, new allergy safety statutory guidance comes into force for schools in England under Benedict’s Law. The guidance strengthens expectations around allergy safety, including allergy policies, staff training, individual healthcare plans and emergency preparedness.
Although Benedict’s Law does not currently make these requirements statutory for PVI settings such as ours, we believe allergy safety should never depend on whether a child is at nursery, out of school club or school.
That’s why we’ve chosen to take proactive steps now.
