Well this is a novelty; my kitchen NEVER looks like this before I leave for Asylum!! Enjoying the view and the relative calm (I’ve been whirling about trying to keep on top of pain and trying on clothes to see what fits that I can comfortably get into with pretty much redundant arms 🙄😔).

Consequently, I shall (as usual 🤷🏼‍♀️😂) be very much steampunk lite. I have, at least, clean hair thanks to Mr Sweetmeats 🎉 and shedloads of meds packed. He has done aaaaall the packing.

So much looking forward to seeing Asylum from t’other side. I’ll be a Steampunk Sally as much as possible for their performances, and we’re volunteering at the Assembly Rooms tomorrow morning and Westgate School Monday afternoon, so come along and say hello and gimme a gentle hug if you’re so moved.

We’re currently en route and looking forward to the Advance Guard tonight - but I’ve just realised I’ve forgotten to pack my dungarees 🤦🏼‍♀️ We always forget SOMEthing, right?!

Quick little update post - and a reminder of what it’s like to trade as someone who makes things in small batches, lovingly, over many many hours.

First of all, let’s get the dull but important stuff out of the way:

I AM CANCER FREEEEEEE!!

Consultant and Wound Care Nurse both very pleased with how well and quickly the extensive surgical incisions are healing, so 🎉 for doing EVERYTHING to the letter. Once everything has completely healed over - hopefully in a week or two - I’ll be referred to Oncology for a planning appointment, where I’ll have my radiotherapy tattoos done and given the dates for my three weeks of daily treatment. I’ll keep this post short and give more detail about radio when I have it.

In the meantime - since Insta requires photos - here’s a pic of tonight’s concoction for National Rum Day. Yes, I know it’s only in the US, but… 🤷🏼‍♀️ I have dubbed it Kraken Bru 🎉

The next pic is more serious. I’ve shared it for myself and my fellow traders, who suffer from comments like this aaaaall the time. Perhaps I should try this, sending little bags of sugar and chocolate? 🤔😈

Anyway. There you go. Nice positive post. Hope to see lots of you at Asylum for (gentle, please! 😬) hugs 💜

My phone is trolling me! This just popped up on the (usually fun) memories an iPhone selects for you. From 7 August last year, this shows the big shop I’d just done for ingredients for Asylum. And there’s not even any bags of chocolate 😱

I’m now kinda conflicted because although I’m very sad not to be trading this year, looking at the schedule and marking up all the things we want to do is exciting. And I don’t need to work my way through this lot this year! 😂

Just a quick and dirty update post to say that the breast cancer surgery went well on Tuesday. Five hours for two surgeons to work on both sides and 1.5 hours in Recovery (I was as slow to come round and unresponsive to Morphine and Fentanyl as always) 🙄 Despite me telling them this beforehand (several times) they kept pumping more in, thinking they’d eventually reach a therapeutic dose and - as always - they didn’t. They finally tried Oxycodone, which DID work but meant that I spent a lot of hours yesterday drifting away in my own little opioid world 🤷🏼‍♀️🙄😂

Today is my youngest’s 21st birthday; he’s a chef so I bought him three very beautiful knives from the Northern Knife Company and he was enthusing over the “perfect balance” of all of them 😊

In the early hours of Tuesday and up till ten minutes before I left for hospital, I made a homemade lasagne and this - a Biscoff Cheesecake. He LOVES a cheesecake instead of a traditional birthday cake. We sat down as a family, last night (he’s gone away on holiday with his girlfriend today) to enjoy eating together. I’ve always made my children’s birthday cakes and I was absolutely not allowing cancer to get in the way this year. Today I am taking it easy, being brought food, drinks and drugs by Mr Sweetmeats 💜

I’m doing my recovery exercises and hoping to see people at Asylum as a punter. I shall really, REALLY miss trading but know I have to go with my head, not my heart, so that I recover in a timely fashion and can start trading again, hopefully in October. As Lady Elsie has said, “there’s always another Asylum but there’s only one you”. Smart woman 👍🏻

And, on the positive side, I actually get to join in on the fun of the daytime shenanigans. Just for one year 😜

Y’know how I’ve stated (lots!) that I hate food waste? Well, here’s the thing…

I still have sweets left over from Papplewick. They’re only going to last another week or so. (Have a look at the previous post in case you might be interested). Last night I had the munchies and really fancied something nutty. My Nutty Maker Lady peanut brittle had melted somewhat at Papplewick - so much so that the shards had disappeared by the time we got home, making it unsaleable. It had re solidified into something which stills goes “bang” when hit on a surface but was basically one big homogenised lump.

Last night, I split the bag down one seam and bit into it - still hard enough that it cracked as I did so, but I was left with an ultra chewy hard toffee full of peanuts. My goodness, it was tasty! I’m inclined to think that, in future if this happens at events, I’ll explain this to potential customers and urge them to give it a try, still. Maybe a little discount - but honestly, it’s still soooo good! 😋

Lovely people of t’internet!

After a very successful weekend at Papplewick (where these photos were taken), I have returned with some leftover products. Apologies for delay - I’ve been at medical appointments most of this week 🙄

As you should know, the reason I urge people to follow me on Insta and Facebook is for exactly this reason - to offer you a bargain! I’m offering you three for the price of two plus £5 P&P on these (the amount left is obviously subject to people putting in orders on a first come, first served basis. Payment will be via BACS - please contact me via DM on Insta or (for preference) Facebook Messenger. Be quick!

UPDATED AS OF 2300 19/7/25

Cyanide or Not - SOLD OUT
Dreadedly Zesty - 7
General Bollick’s Tablet - SOLD OUT
Herr Döktor’s Balls - SOLD OUT

Oh My Darling Clementine - 10
Rhys’s Morsels - SOLD OUT
Rosy Violent Creams - SOLD OUT
Silk Road - 10

This was my last event prior to breast cancer surgery on 29 July. Friends have suggested that you lot might like progress reports in the meantime until I return - would you like that?

I have sadly and begrudgingly had to accept the fact that I will not be fit enough to trade at Asylum but still hope to be there as a punter and Steampunk Sally 🤞🏻Come say hi and hug me gently 😂

PS I have also adopted two emotional support cats to get me through the tough post op days. Their names are Cinder (male tabby) and Toffee (female tortie). Yes - they have been renamed to reflect the business! If only I could get cinder toffee to not go sticky in the bags I’d be making it to sell in celebration of this beautiful twosome 💜

As always, the obligatory “here we are!” post - today coming to you from Papplewick Pumping Station. Trading next to the beer trader (!) and in front of the building full of coal 😂 10-4 today and tomorrow. This is your last chance to buy for a wee while, so come and stock up!

See those beauties? Colonel Custard’s Mallows, all cut up and weighed, ready for bagging up!

Now, I know Blists was supposed to be my last trading date before surgery but there have been delays due to further MRIs and biopsies, so I approached to ask, pretty please, if they could reinstate my booking - and the wonderful Sarah, she said yes! 🎉

So. I look forward to seeing customers old and new this weekend, today and tomorrow 10-4. This really is my last trading day for a while - I finally have an op date of 29 July 🎉 so come see my squishy pillows of deliciousness while I have them. And also the marshmallows… 😜😂

Standard “I’m here and all set up, ready to serve you!” post from Blists Hill, Ironbridge Gorge. I’m on the green, very first stall on your left - you can’t miss the big purple gazebo! Here today and tomorrow 🎉

Alert! Alert! Don’t look at this post - the first picture features NUDES!! 😳😲🫣

Yes. Rosy Violent Creams in a state of undress 😱😲

There. That got your attention! 😜

I don’t make them often as they’re a bit of a faff and need to be made at the last minute as the fondant dries out pretty quickly due to lack of any nasty artificial preservatives. That said, they’re so delicious they don’t hang around for long! Come see me on the green at Blists Hill this weekend, where I’ll be selling these for the first time (and last ) in months, before I stop trading for a little while.

Speaking of which; Mr Mead will be picking up a batch of Dreadedly Zesty lemon and mead fudge to take to his events for the next 2-3 weeks as I’m not trading. Go buy some delicious mead at 👍🏻

I’ve also made some tasty lavender shortbreads - and a little surprise. The only thing I make that isn’t gluten free is these - so I’ve had a bash at a GF/DF/Vegan version (see the last photo). They’re a bit paler and softer but hopefully no less delicious 🤞🏻

In between photos are those naughty flowery fondants all covered up. I have one bag which is 75/25% violet/rose, so if you have a purple preference, let me know and I’ll keep that one aside for you 😘

Right. Off to bed after pulling an all-nighter last night. Up at 0500 for the 2.5 hour drive to Ironbridge! 🥱

02/07/2025

Well. My post has changed very quickly since I started typing it out at 0515 to say “It’s 0515 and that can only mean one thing - bedtime!”. As I was tapping away I glanced out into the garden only to see half a dozen sparrows or great t**s flitting about - then realised what was causing the frenzy: my cherry tree has fruited! Sorry, birdies, but I’ve been chasing away pigeons from it the last couple of weeks and had intended grabbing this solitary bunch sometime today. Plans have moved forward, as you can see!

Anyway. Back to the original post! It’s been 32c outside today and not much better indoors in the kitchen. The Silk Road (chai latte fudge) needs boiling to 120c before furiously beating it, the sugar syrup for the Queen of Hearts (raspberry mallows) to 130c 😳😬 hence the kitchen temperature of 26.5c at 0505 🥵 I’ve also just dipped the last of the Steam Powered Truffles (espresso truffles) as it’s the coolest it’s going to get in here… 🙄

So. Off to beddy byes. Alarm set for 1130 so that I can get on with more sweeties. Tomorrow (yes, technically today) it’s Rosy Violent Creams as a special treat for a good friend who I know ADORES them (I don’t often have time to make them so grab them while you can at Blists Hill this weekend 😉) 💜
