4 years of studying, access courses, university, 2300 hours in practice, countless hours of assignments/exams/reflections, years of perseverance, patience and lots of resilience. I finish my Adult Nursing Degree with a 2nd upper class 👩🏼🎓 📜
Wooooow what a mental 4 years it’s been! So much has gone on in between, losing loved ones, illnesses and challenges with the children trying to juggle mum life, wife life, a house renovation, 28282992 endometriosis flares, surgery, running a cake business, alongside an uphill battle of mental health in between 😂
When I gave birth to my eldest daughter at just the age of 17, (I fell pregnant so young because I was naive but don’t regret her one bit) - I put on hold the whole of my life ambitions & remember thinking “I’m going to make sure I get to university one day to study something in the health care industry, I don’t care how long it takes, I’m going to get there!”
At the time, the whole “pregnant at 16, young and dumb, she’ll never make anything of herself” attitude towards young mums was very real (I think it still is, although I really don’t advise anyone to fall pregnant at that age! ⚠️). And when you’re that young, it’s easy to feel like becoming a mum means the things you wanted for yourself are no longer possible. Especially when you have to put them first. It wasn’t an easy ride, we was thrown so many hurdles, Lilly was diagnosed with a condition called CCAMS, which is a tumor on the lung, forming its own blood supply to the aorta 🫀 that meant she needed surgery asap at GOSH.
I then went on to have 2 more beautiful surprises (twins) when I just finished another social care course, and had to put that on hold too. Fast forward 10 years & 4 children later (I then went on to have my beautiful crazy son)… I’ve made younger me so proud ❤️ ❤️ not only do I run my own business, I’ve got that degree! 📜
Here’s to being a Mum, Nurse & a business owner all in one!
