CAKE SHED UPDATE
I know ive been pretty quiet on all my socials lately and you are probably wondering where the cake shed is and missing it !!! (I know i am)
unfortunately I ran into a few issues over the summer. The endless heatwaves and not having a fridge in the shed , then my oven broke so had to replace that, but the biggest blow of all was contacting the council after all the hype in the media about trading licences and yes unfortunately I do need one which is understandable but unfortunately the cost of it is pretty unreasonable my options are annually are £1970 ( that's a lot of extra cake to make) or there is an option to have an occasional licence at £37 per day.
My thought process as im not open every weekend is to initially start running one weekend a month on the Saturday/Sunday to see how it goes and if it does well and covers cost of the trading license to then consider getting the annual licence and increase the days that im open.
This really will be a use it or lose it situation, so your support in keeping the shed going will be vital in my decision making.
I am very saddened by this as im fully aware that Birmingham council have the cake shed trading license under review but as its pretty impossible to speak to anyone from solihull council and takes 3+ weeks to even get a response in an email this is the predicament im in.
The Cake Shed was going so well and it's not easy with the amount of work involved with all the ingredients shopping, baking, coming up with new ideas, paperwork , packaging, allergen labels and of course the initial cost to set up the beautiful pink shed. This was meant to be an extension to my cake business to keep me going as besoke cakes really have become a luxury item now.
It also really brought the community together and got people talking. I'm really not ready to give up on this and hoping to open Halloween weekend but will confirm once ive got the occasional license so please keep an eye out on my socials.
Many Thanks Cakes by Adele solihull
