La Bonne Parisienne

A local, Shrewsbury artisan baker specialising in handcrafted, French & continental breads and pastries delivered straight from my oven to your door.

Inspired by my travels, the love of honest, home-baked bread and the joy of traditional baking techniques. I use authentic French flours, butter and ingredients, combined with locally-sourced produce, to lovingly create a variety of traditional pastries, as well as classic French and world breads. Beautifully packaged and hand delivered locally, on a vintage bicycle in the Copthorne, Radbrook, Bowbrook, Kingsland, Belle Vue, Meole and Frankwell areas of Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

It’s been a long time coming but, at last, today Felix got to enjoy his birthday experience gift; A Viennoiserie Masterclass with me, here at La Bonne Parisienne.

Purchased for this keen, amateur baker during lockdown, it was great to finally be able to get together and teach Felix all the tricks and techniques needed to make beautifully laminated, buttery French pastries at home.

Along with lunch, course notes and pastries to take home too, there was lots to get his teeth into. A great day!

The marvellous team assembles! Yes, we’re still here and it’s the last bake of the year. A one-off, special, festive package for my lovely home delivery customers:

Classic, French, Pain aux Noix- A crusty, wholemeal walnut & honey bread that’s fabulous with cheese….

Festive Mince Plaits - Classic, French pastries stuffed with extra matured, brandy-laced mincemeat…

…AND of course, my Tipsy Stollen Spirals - Crunchy pistachios, Cointreau-soaked cranberries, raisins & sultanas, a thick layer of frangipane almond paste and hefty handfuls of nutmeg & spice, all rolled up, Chelsea bun style.

It’s been 5 years!!! Still here after 5 years in business this weekend.

Celebrating with a much deserved Sunday lunch treat for staff & helpers, past and present, for their commitment, support and dedication to duty- particularly during those manic and scary weeks of that first Lockdown. Tirelessly helping me with the long hours of baking, delivering, cleaning and admin throughout. Scott, Lesley, Jane (JS-Business-and-Admin) Eleni and Helen.

A big thanks must also go to the New Inn Hook-a-Gate for the cosy, family run venue, the gallons of Prosecco and the delicious home cooked meal. Highly recommended! We’ll definitely be back before the next 5 years is up. Exciting times ahead….

It’s that time of year again, Sourdough September and, of course, the annual apple picking courtesy of my wonderful friend Louise and her orchard of finest, local Bramley’s. Never mind September…Enough picked for Spiced Apple & Sultana Sourdoughs the entire winter season!

Morning folks! Sorry for the recent silence. I confess that I’ve had a little break from the baking, but I haven’t wasted my time. Look who I’ve recruited to join the team..

Meet Simon, my new Bakery Assistant. Simon is passionate about home grown & homemade produce from field to fork. He has some useful amateur baking experience and comes from a restaurant management background, even running his own coffee merchant business in the past - The perfect accompaniment to one of my Normandy butter croissants!

It was a baptism of bagels on his first day, but I’m delighted to say Simon has returned for the next challenge…. I’m just wondering a what point to show him the bike? lol.

Remember this beauty? The lovely Muriel. My original, vintage Pashley delivery bike with comfy Brookes saddle. Named after my grandmother who inspired me to bake. Used for all my home deliveries in the first year of La Bonne Parisienne. Now up for sale due to lack of space.

Still rideable (after some TLC) but would also make a wonderful accessory/display outside a shop, visitor attraction or stall.

Signage will be removed of course.

Sorry folks, No bagels for Rosie's Emporium- The Grocery today, or sadly for the next few weeks…

For those who don’t know, Rosie & Bill are taking well earned, continental -style break and will be closed for the entire month of August.

In the meantime, don’t forget that you can still find my bumptious bagels, ready-stuffed with layers of tasty fillings, at Shrewsbury Coffee House Castlegates
