It's my beautiful niece's 16th tomorrow.

When she presented me with the inspiration picture for this, I was apprehensive. Piping has never been my forte.

However, I've been practising, and I'm so pleased with how it turned out, and more importantly, so is the birthday girl!

It's my sons birthday today, and these are some of his cakes over the years.

I've always tried to make them myself, and he got more adventurous with his requests.

This year, however, he's gone for a classic! Victoria sponge cake with mascarpone icing and fresh strawberries.

When I bake cupcakes for an order, I always make a couple extra in case of mishaps. Today, there were no mishaps. I made the extras into these little butterfly buns.

I'm sure my boys will enjoy these serendipitous treats as a start to the half term holidays.
