Back in my day oasis at meadowhall
🛍️ Who remembers the Oasis dining quarter at Meadowhall, with Rock Island Diner to the right, and Spiros on the left, looking like this?
Meadowhall shopping centre was the UK’s second biggest shopping centre when it welcomed its first customers on September 4, 1990.
The £250 million, 1.5 million sqft mega-mall forever altered the shape of shopping in Sheffield, attracting nearly 20 million shoppers in its first year.
It marked a major shift in the city’s economic landscape, replacing Hadfields’ East Hecla Works, amid the ongoing decline of the UK steel industry.
Nearly 36 years later, Meadowhall itself has changed considerably.
