I recently had trading standards come round to check my documentation and for me to ask any questions and advice.
Everything I have done is great! But even though I was told by my local council that I could start baking and selling using the ingredients I have been using I will have to change all of my recipes because I use animal products (eggs, cheese, honey etc).
Now I could carry on using all these ingredients but it make my life a lot more complicated. I would have to register with the Animal and Plant Health Agency and they would have to do various checks by a government approved vet. I would have to register as a Pet Food Manufacturing Facility and submit regular samples for microbiological testing. There's also other things that I won't bore you with.
Unfortunately this was only to be a small part time business while I work full time as The Cakesmith making human cakes. This would not be a problem if Ollie Dog's Kitchen was going to be my main job but I just don't believe that the island would be able to provide that many customers for me. I so badly want this to work because this was Ollie's legacy and he meant, and means, so much to me.
So for the foreseeable future Ollie Dog's Kitchen will be closed while I try to create vegan treats. I will try my hardest but I can't promise anything. I want to only use the best and healthiest ingredients for our beloved pooches and I won't accept less when I start re-creating.
I am sad by all of this as I believe what I have created is above and beyond what people are used to seeing for their dogs special treats. Please be patient with me while I try and work some magic β¨πΎ
