Sunday morning at Kelly’s Kitchen 🥰

I know these types of posts can show the positive side to journey of a business. And it has been hugely positive, - mainly because of you guys and your loyalty and support over the years. Which will mean more than you ever know 🥹

But what it doesn’t show is the stress (this isn’t a pity statement at all it’s just keeping it real which we always do)

These are the highlights, but behind them is a huge amount of stress and sadness along the way, personal struggles, mental health challenges, lost friends and failure balanced with success (I personally think you can’t be successful if you don’t fail along the way too)

It’s the single most hardest thing I’ve ever done but also the absolute best 😂 any other small business owners feel the same?

Wouldn’t change it for the world, and we thank you guys for sticking with us since the start back in 2019, the Christmas fairs and the market stalls, the bakealongs and the lockdown treat boxes.

And now our little shop, where we chat with you guys at length putting the world to rights, laughing and sometimes hearing the hardest news which you share with us.

Everyone is welcome, whether you’re popping in quickly on the way to the station and you don’t want to miss your train. Or you’ve just dropped your little off for the first time at school and need a coffee and a bit of distraction 🥹

So anyway, the point of this post was to reflect on the journey, the ups and downs, but to also say thank you for being here, liking cake (and sandwiches!) and supporting local independent businesses 🥰 we appreciate it so much!

The shops are open today with your freshly baked weekend treats with an autumnal twist! And of course sandwiches and Hot Numbers Coffee Roasters too 🩷

I feel like I need a camomile tea after this morning with the kids and it’s not even 9am 🫠

Once you’ve finished the school run, or finally got into work, we are here for your Friday treats to help you decompress 🧖🏻‍♀️

Our Pumpkin Pie Blonkie has our buttery biscuit base with Belgian white chocolate Blondie with pumpkin cake sunk into it, topped with our scorched Italian meringue and pumpkin drizzle.

Our Banoffee Cookie Stack has Banoffee cake and Belgian White Chocolate ganache in the centre, topped with Dulce de Leche and sweet banana chips.

And our Sticky Toffee Cookie Bar has Sticky Toffee Cake sunk in with our hand made Sticky Toffee Sauce and chopped dates.

All paired with a to warm you up.

Lots of other freshly baked treats including Cinnamon Rolls, Pasteis de Nata and Cookies fresh from the oven.

Sandwiches are back too, breads just out of the oven too and super soft today! 6 fillings to choose from or our monthly Special The Caesar with freshly grated Parmesan to serve. You can pre order by sending a WhatsApp to 07818038795 or just pop in and we’ll make up while you wait.

Exciting news for our Bassingbourn customers 🥰🍰🍪 🧁

We’ve had lots of lovely customers pop into our Bassingbourn shop lately asking us to stock our Cinnamon Rolls, Pasteis de Nata, Cookies and Breads in Bassingbourn as well as Royston (alongside our brownies/blondies/cookie pies that we already have there)

Well, we’ve listened 🥰

From now, you can pre order the items that we bake fresh in the mornings by sending a WhatsApp message to 07818038795.

Tell us what you’d like, how many, and whether you’re collecting on Friday or Saturday.

We’ll send a payment link once confirmed and all you have to do is swing by during our opening hours to collect your order 🙌🏻

Pre orders close Thursdays at 10pm.

We have free short stay parking right outside the bakery so it makes it super easy to pop by after the school run in the morning, on your way to work, or after football on a Saturday ⚽️

David’s Bolo de Caco breads are currently being hand made and baked fresh before we open. Your choice of 6 fillings or our monthly special The Caesar, which has been SO popular with you guys - our hand made Chicken Caesar sauce with chicken breast, with our lemon mayo, crispy bacon and fresh lettuce, topped off with freshly grated Parmesan.

Best day EVER 😭😭😭

I was explaining to my daughter a while back just who Mary Berry was and why I love her so much. I wanted her to know what a legend she is and how much I admire her in so many ways.

She said to me, ‘Mum you should try and get to meet her’ to which I was like, ah no I won’t be able to do that.

But then while we were talking I thought, well actually why not? I looked up if she was at any events and sure enough this one came up 🥹

She said to me, ‘you might not get the chance Mum you should go for it’

Little B, I’m so glad I listened to you ❤️

David and I travelled down to Sevenoaks, on a few trains, to get there. We sat in the audience, something that if you know me personally is really difficult for me to do as I get very anxious. I adore the West End but every single time I go (which isn’t as often as I’d like!) I spend at least the first half in an anxious spin trying not to leg it out of the theatre 😂)

So I sat there, nervous, assessing my exits. And after listening to Mary give such an eloquent, funny and incredible interview about her life, an opportunity came up to ask her a question 😳. They turned the lights up so she could see us all, and heart pounding I raised my hand (who on earth is this person I thought as I did that, even David was surprised). They handed me the microphone and Mary and I looked at each other 😭😭😭 what a moment. My hero, 91 years old looking absolutely fabulous wearing my favourite colour, looking straight at me. And I did it, I asked her, and she answered in true Mary style. Absolute icon. It was incredible.

Something I’ve learned today is to #1 listen to those younger who encourage you to do things you never thought you would do. And #2 continue pushing through anxiety. Living with it is tough, but there are moments where you win, and it doesn’t control your every moment, and today was one of those.

Mary said, her best piece of advice for everyone is to always try to be kind…and to eat a Victoria Sponge cake on your birthday😉

Yesterday was rather hectic 🫶🏻

Not just because so many of you guys came down for your weekend treats (thank you SO much 🥹)

But also we were a little behind on cutting up all of our items. This takes quite a long time as we have to cut our full trays into quarters to transport to the shop and then have to cut them into 6s for the counter at the shop.

So it meant that we were so busy serving you all that it was getting later and later before we could cut up more items, especially the cookie pies 🙈

Which means we have cookie pies in the shop today (which these days is fairly rare for a Sunday!)

We also have bacon butties with bread currently being baked, Hot Numbers Coffee Roasters cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven and other weekend treats to choose from.
