When I first started Bakes by Stephanie I had an order for a rectangle cake and it was not well received.

It was my first time not covering a rectangular cake in fondant and I was working with white chocolate buttercream - far too soft for me to achieve a good finish, never again!!

The customer complained and said it looked messy and she requested a refund so she could buy the recipient a bottle of w**e to make up for the awful cake!

This feedback really knocked my confidence and I nearly gave up then and there!

But instead I decided to learn from it and practise! Whilst I am still not 100% happy with the corners on this cake, it is 1000 times better than the cake I produced 5 years ago!

Tentatively stepping out of maternity leave with an order going out today!

I've been itching to get baking again but am being realistic in my capacity to juggle 2 children as well!

I will not be taking on any occasion cakes but the books are open for brownie/blondie orders and the odd cupcake order whilst I get back in the swing of things!

Today's order - gluten free vanilla cupcakes filled with strawberry jam and iced with vanilla buttercream. Currently undecorated because the baby woke up and needs feeding 🙈

It was my son's 6th birthday on Sunday and he helped bake and decorate his birthday cake this year!

A simple brief of 'a jammy dodger cake please Mummy' for his party.

I think he did an amazing job 🥰💖

A spot of baking for pleasure today!

I'm not planning on being back baking properly until early next year but today I really fancied a good vanilla cupcake 😋

Dexter enjoyed decorating them - his piping skills are so good! Until he gets over excited and just squirts it everywhere 🤣
