Preparations last week for a very special cake indeed - for the wedding of our eldest daughter on Saturday 💞

I have so much to share! This cake was quite different from anything I have made before...

So watch this space 👀 But I have many many photos to sort through - it will take me a while!!

Three layers of moist chocolate cake filled with a Belgian chocolate enriched buttercream. Finished with a white chocolate buttercream to provide a deliciously pale backdrop for all the carefully coordinated decorations 💂‍♀🎡

Celebrating a life-long love of golf on your 90th birthday ⛳

Underneath the white chocolate and grassy buttercream exterior lay three layers of moist chocolate cake filled with a Belgian chocolate enriched buttercream 😋

ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD: my customer particularly wanted the birthday message and little piped hearts on this cake to be done in gold 🌟

It's not really possible to achieve a truly shiny gold buttercream! So I piped 'happy birthday' and the tiny hearts in a matt golden brown first.

As this had time to set, I mixed some edible gold lustre dust with a little vodka to make an edible gold paint. I applied this carefully to the top surface of the message and hearts with a fine paint brush.

When viewed from above this gives all the appearance of a shiny gold buttercream, but viewed sideways on you can see the gold is only surface deep 💛

A huge diamond wedding anniversary cake with crimped edges and royal icing hand-piped message 👩‍🍳

It was a wonderful opportunity to use some of my more traditional skills...

These were combined with sparkly stars, starry ribbon and a fabulous cake topper for a modern twist 💫

Such a fabulous way to celebrate changing styles over the 6 decades this lovely couple have enjoyed together 🎉
