Three layers of chocolate cake infused with orange zest and a fresh orange juice drizzle... filled with a chocolate orange buttercream, and topped with a Belgian chocolate ganache drip 🤎🧡

A luscious light carrot cake - baked without nuts by request 🥕

Filled and covered with vanilla buttercream, with a swirled finish. Gold highlights, small hand piped hearts and a hand piped happy birthday!

'Thank you for Ella’s beautiful cake. It was a huge hit! So much so that we have none left. This has never happened to me with any birthday cake - it was absolutely delicious.

PERSONALISED ELEMENTS: nothing makes a cake more bespoke than some truly personalised additions!

I have crafted plenty of flower and garden themed cakes, but each one is slightly different - taking into account the season of the year, and the recipient's colour preferences.

This cake featured brightly coloured spring flowers and gardening equipment. But adding the family furry grey cat and a shamrock made this even more special for Brian ☘️

An 85th birthday cake for Brian who loves his garden - featuring a flower border full of brightly coloured polyanthus and grape hyacinths, and tiny daffodils in the grass around the base 🌺🌼🪻

Complete with the family cat, gardening gloves and secateurs... and even a robin and wren pecking in the grass 🐱🐦

Celebrations for Sally Funnell's 40 years of volunteering with 8th Rickmansworth Brownies 🎉

This was a particularly special cake to make... as as all three of my daughters were Sally's Brownies, and I still volunteer alongside her as Dusky Owl 🦉

Sally was so surprised when I secretly organised for all the parents to turn up early in her honour at the end of a recent Brownie meeting, along with the district commissioner. Celebrations included speeches and thank you cards made by the girls... and of course a piece of cake for everyone!

Sally was an 8th Rickmansworth Brownie herself, and returned as a young leader as soon as she was old enough. On finishing Uni she was invited back as an adult leader, became Snowy Owl... and has been Snowy ever since!

'I have many wonderful memories of my time in guiding - from attending Thinking Day celebrations in Westminster Abbey as a Brownie, to setting off on Guide Camp in the back of a removal truck. I also sang on a recording (in the days of cassette tapes!) of guiding songs at Maida Vale studios.

I’ve seen a number of changes to the uniform and programme. But guiding continues to help girls develop skills like teamwork, independence, leadership, creativity and empathy. They grow in confidence. There's something for everyone!

I’ve worked alongside some wonderful adults too. We’re a real team!’

It was an honour to make this huge cake to celebrate Snowy Owl's incredible 40 years of volunteering with Girlguiding 🎉

Sally Funnell has spent 40 years as a leader with 8th Rickmansworth Brownies... and has no intention of giving up any time soon! 💛 🤎

➡️ I can personally vouch for the rewards of volunteering, with 24 years service so far... enabling girls to try new things, have adventures and grow in skills and confidence 👍

Our units urgently need more volunteers to be able to continue offering exciting opportunities for local girls...

DESIGNING THE CAKE TO FIT THE DECORATION: some cakes are best designed around the decorative element - for maximum effect!

This occasion only required a small cake, but if the rectangular image was printed to place on top of a 6" round cake it would have been so much smaller, and not had the same impact.

And this cake was definitely all about the artwork - celebrating the birthday of award-winning comedian Tom Short 🎉

So I suggested I bake the cake as a deeper one layer rectangle of 8" x 6". This uses exactly the same quantity of cake batter as my regular 2 layer 6"...

The edible image was printed to fit by the lovely Denise at Tapestry Cakes... and the artwork truly came to life!

Note: I placed the print on a thin layer of chocolate sugarpaste before adding it to the cake, as moisture from the buttercream can cause an edible icing sheet to wrinkle.

So even a relatively simple cake can take time and planning to bring together. But happy customers are what my job is all about 🥰
