Some stories are just too good not to share.
Sara joined us a few weeks ago + after her first few shifts went home absolutely buzzing. She told her mum, Naïma, how much she loved working here + how welcome everyone had made her feel.
So, naturally, Naïma decided to come in one Sunday + see what all the fuss was about.
The next day, Sara knocked on my office door + asked if we were hiring.
I assumed she had a friend looking for a job.
Nope. Her mum.
Apparently Naïma had come in, loved the bakery, loved the atmosphere + decided she wanted in too 😂
+ that, ladies + gents, is how we accidentally ended up hiring our first ever mother-daughter duo.
I love this story because I think it says more about the kind of place we’re building than I ever could. It’s the people who turn up every day, look after one another, make each other laugh, work bloody hard + create somewhere that people genuinely want to be part of.
bagels + schmear has never just been about bagels. They’re a pretty important part of it, of course… but this business has always been about the people. Our team is the heartbeat of everything we do. They’re the reason this place feels the way it does + they’re the reason it continues to thrive.
Also, I need to give Naïma a special mention because she became the first person to make me full-on belly laugh during an interview.
