IT’S SOURDOUGH SEPTEMBER!

A whole month dedicated to genuine sourdough and the people who make, bake and eat it.

So we thought we’d start by introducing you to one of the hardest-working members of Happy Belly Bakery…

Meet June, our wholemeal Mother.

She’s not much to look at. A bit gloopy. Smells slightly strange. Lives in a tub.

But this little mixture of flour and water is home to a thriving community of naturally occurring yeasts and bacteria and she’s what gives life to every sourdough loaf we make.

We feed her. She feeds us.

Seems like a fair arrangement really.

This Wednesday you can find a few cakey specials by our bakery assistant Freddie.

she’s baked for you a banana chocolate chip loaf and a rhubarb crumble cake made with excess sourdough levain. (Amazing right?!)

You’ll also be able to grab the last of the heritage tomatoe, basil and vintage Wi******er brioche

AND

You’ll be able to stock up on our delicious sourdough too!

September is nearly here… which means it’s almost Sourdough September

Admittedly, every month is pretty sourdough-heavy around here.

January? Sourdough.
April? Sourdough.
That weird bit between Christmas and New Year when nobody knows what day it is? Still sourdough.

BUT September gives us an excuse to bang on about it even more than usual.

So over the next month we’ll be sharing a little more about what genuine sourdough actually is, introducing you properly to the Mother behind all our bakes, showing you some bakery behind-the-scenes and, obviously, tempting you with an unreasonable amount of bread.

When it comes to our sourdough focaccia we’re pretty darn pleased with it.

Saturday bake is looking on point too so come up to the bakery from 9am to grab some goodies!

Solar eclipse… pah!

Sourdough solar eclipse? Now we’re talking. 😉

Why not stock up on a few treats from the bakery today, then head out for a wander on the moors and start your day properly?

Perhaps with one of our sourdough cinnamon buns freshly baked, swirled with cinnamon and waiting on the counter today.

Sunshine, cinnamon bun, Dartmoor and an eclipse… not a bad Wednesday, really.
