I am having a lot of conversations about positioning and authority at the moment.
So I thought I would start a conversation about it.
Authority isn’t about being louder.
People tell me they want to be seen as an “authority” in their space.
But most don’t actually know what that means.
They think it is this:
💫 More posts
💫 More tips
💫 More “value”
💫 More noise
And then wonder why nothing changes.
Because authority isn’t about being louder.
It’s about being clear enough and consistent enough that people stop second guessing you.
Let’s simplify it.
Authority is when:
💫 People understand what you do quickly
💫 They trust your opinion without needing proof every time
💫 They stop shopping around because you feel like a solid choice
That’s it.
No fancy strategy required.
And this is where you are probably getting it wrong 👇
💫 Talking to “everyone” instead of someone specific
💫 Hiding behind safe, generic content
💫 Avoid saying anything that might actually get a negative response
Which leads to just blending in
Here’s the uncomfortable truth:
You don’t build authority by adding more.
You build it by deciding what you stand for and holding it long enough for people to recognise it.
- Same message.
- Same angle.
- Repeated with intent.
Not for a week.
Not for a launch.
Long enough that people go:
“Oh, you’re the one who does that.”
If that’s not happening yet, it’s not because you’re not doing enough.
It’s because you’re not being clear enough, long enough.
If you want a quick sense-check:
Could someone describe what you do in one sentence without guessing?
If not, that’s your starting point.
If this has made you slightly uncomfortable, good.
That’s usually where the real fixes are.
