Hiya, I'm Louise, and I run LJ's Bakeaway. There are so many bakers in and around Peterborough, and with so many options you might be wondering, why choose me?
Well I can't give you an opinion on other local bakers as I don't find myself in need of their services π
however, I can tell you a little bit about why you might want to order with me!
β
5* hygiene rating
I am registered with the council and received a 5* food hygiene rating last year, with standards in every area found to be very good. I'm also covered by insurance although fingers crossed have never needed it!
β Positive reviews
You can check out my positive reviews on Facebook! I am so very grateful for everyone who leaves me a review, and you will often see customers comment on posts featuring their cake about how much it was enjoyed! This will never stop being the absolute best part of my job π
π§ Fresh bakes
All of my products are freshly baked to order (or baked soon before going into the bake box when open). Everyone does things differently and I'm not here to judge! But as an example, I've seen lots of posts recently about freezing school cakes and defrosting ready for sale (not necessarily locally!), but it did make me wonder if this is why I get so many people telling me my school cake is the best they've had! I personally never freeze it as I've tried it fresh and frozen and I do notice a texture change. I want my customers to have the best and have as long as possible to enjoy it at top quality, so I bake at the earliest the evening before collection, or on the day if there's time!
π« Quality ingredients
I always try to use fresh, quality ingredients in all of my bakes. You can make a lovely brownie with supermarket chocolate and baking spread, however in my opinion (I might get some hate for this π«£) an excellent one is only made with real butter and Belgian chocolate π€€
π§βπ§βπ§βπ§ Supporting local
I am a small local business trying to support my family. Can you get a cheaper birthday cake from a supermarket or big chain? Yes of course. But when you order from me, that payment is going towards school uniforms, kids parties and Christmas presents, not just more record profits for big business. And in turn, I try to support other small local businesses too π
π¨πΌβπ¬ I test EVERYTHING.
I won't sell you something unless I've previously tested it and know it will be good. If it's something I don't like (what can I say, I'm fussy) I'll recruit others to taste test for me! I freeze test all of my bakes, so I can let you know which bakes will still be excellent from frozen if you have leftovers. I endlessly tweak my recipes until they are perfect before you get the final product, which is why new menu items don't always appear as quickly as we'd like!
π Convenience
So many of my regular customers live within walking distance! If you're local to Bretton, there's no reason you can't go further afield to purchase elsewhere, but there really is something special about being able to support people right on your doorstep π₯°
Not only this, I will bend over backwards to make my schedule work for you. Need to collect at a certain time? I'm here! Last minute order? If there are enough hours in the day, I'll fit you in! I do get a lot of comments about if I ever take a break, and honestly, it's very rare π I just hate to see anyone disappointed!
π Giving back
When I can, I like to give back to my customers and the community. Let's be real, I'm far from the biggest baker in Peterborough. I'm running a very small business here so can't always afford to! However I'm grateful to you all, and when I can will run giveaways, support charities, purchase through other local businesses and maybe even give regular customers a little free gift π€
Do you already order with me? Why not let us know why in the comments!
If you're new here, why not check out my Father's Day menu, or visit the Bake Box on my next open weekend (19th-21st June)!
