Dear Customers,
(Apologies in advance for going a little Will Smith 🙊)
BUT I need to say that as small businesses we are doing our BEST daily.
- Always working for less than minimum wage
- Getting genuine anxiety over being good enough and meeting expectations
- Worrying about how we’ll juggle everything
- Accommodating last minute orders so you’re not let down
- Rushing around for ingredients, toppers and supplies
- Making deliveries and staying behind to help set up at no extra cost to you
- Staying up until 3/4am to finish cakes so we can still be mums, wives, daughters, friends and HUMANS
- Cleaning up the mammoth mess from one cake knowing that once dinner is out of the way, we need to start the next *sob*
Thank you to every one of you who supports and gives lovely feedback - you will possibly never realise but our heart and soul goes in to every bake and so any tiny bit of positivity literally lifts us up. In my 10 years of baking I have never had a bad review, but think I’ve been “tipped” a handful of times and whilst it isn’t at all about the money for me, for some it is and I definitely think baking is a profession where our efforts are massively undervalued. And everyone deserves to feel appreciated and treated with respect.
On that note, I will be taking a break from baking because I’m fortunate enough to have that option.
To my fellow wonderful bakers who will soldier on,
You are amazing. Even when it feels like everything is going wrong, when you’re trying not to sweat and cry in to your buttercream and are sick to your stomach about how you will get it all done, when everyone is fed up of your baking mess and you’re never present, we still always come through with the goods! Know your worth, don’t take abuse, charge what you charge and don’t apologise for any of it!
