To all of our wonderful customers,
After 101 years and three generations of Martins bakers, the time has finally come for me to hang up my apron.
Going back to 1924 when my Grandfather Ernest Martin started as an apprentice, before buying the business himself in 1945. My lovely Mother Yvonne and Father John then took over the reigns in the 1970’s, before passing the baton to me in 1991. My Mother Yvonne would carry on working and offering me support until she finally retired at age 75.
I would like to thank all of the staff who have worked for my family over the decades, too many to mention by name. A special thank you to Kath, who has been at the shop as long as I have, and to my good friend Ray Clarke who was crazy enough to work for me twice after meeting at bakery college all those years ago.
Also giving thanks to my smarter older brother Gary who worked at Martins as a teenager, before promptly clearing off to London leaving all the hard work to me! My fantastic children Rachel & John, who both got roped into working at the family business at one point or another. And most of all my wife Amanda, there honestly would not be a Martins Bakery without her by my side.
So before I finally hang up my apron, I would like to take this moment to thank all of you, our wonderful customers both past and present, for your incredible support and loyalty throughout the decades. I was chatting with one of our wonderful former Saturday girls Beth recently, reflecting on how I remember serving her grandparents in the 80’s! You are what have kept Martins, and all other small businesses, alive over the years with your fantastic support and I am truly grateful for every visit, smile and new friendships made.
But the journey doesn’t end here, whilst I am stepping away the bakery will continue under new ownership, bringing fresh energy and continuing the legacy of Martins bakery.
Thank you for everything
Kind Regards,
Lyndon Martin
