I’ve followed the Scottish Geologist for some time - her enthusiasm and knowledge is brilliant to listen to. And there is plenty of geology to get excited about on Easdale!! Should be a great day.

Shape and flatness from bedding and cleavage planes

Density and hardness from slate mineralogy

Test out your geological insights by selecting your own “skimming slate” from permitted pebble areas.

Throwback Thursday to when I was a child oyster farmer!
Hugo and I had just put a few trestle tables and oysters on the beach on Herm Island as an experiment to see how they grew. We practically knew the oysters by name there were so few!
That was 41 years ago 😳

Top finds whilst grading today 👍🏻 Apart from a ❤️ shaped oyster, there is a Butterfish hiding underneath the seaweed, an urchin and a load of winkles.

My visitor at low tide this afternoon - a Lion’s Mane Jellyfish. I was very brave in my waders and gloves 😉😂

Do you see why I had to get my deliveries done earlier than usual!!

A beautiful start to the tide and its Oban’s Highland Games today too.
I did my oyster deliveries early as I didn’t want to get caught up in the parade up to Mossfield. The parade is spectacular, all the kilts and pipes! And on a day like today even better.
Fresh oysters delivered to Watts the fishmonger, Waterfront Fishouse Restaurant, Inver and The Pierhouse Hotel.
